Most visited ‘place’ on Earth is thought as extremely ‘tacky’ to a lot of visitors
Despite searing reviews dubbing it a cluster of vapid consumerism, the Dubai Mall claimed it was the most visited place on Earth during 2023.
The mall, which is owned and operated by Emaar Properties, was opened in 2008 following four long years of building, pushback, and expansions. Its the second-largest mall on the planet behind the New South China Mall in Dongguan, China.

The mall has everything from a haunted house to a zoo
The Dubai Mall is undeniably a modern marvel of architecture, spanning 12 million square feet. It boasts over 1,200 stores, an Olympic-sized ice skating rink, a fully functional aquarium, and its own metro rail.
As reported by the Mall, 2023 saw a massive increase in visitors as they recorded 105 million customers. Thats a 19% increase from 88 million in 2022.
Emaar founder Mohamed Alabbar further predicted a record-breaking 2024 as he revealed 20 million people had already visited this year.
He said: These numbers reflect Dubai Malls impressive status and mirror the forward-thinking leadership and strong economy of Dubai.

Our mall embodies the citys vibrant spirit and dedication to excellence, turning the leaderships vision into a reality. Being an integral part of Dubais economic fabric, we play a crucial role in the citys success and innovation.
This wide range of nationalities not only underscored the malls worldwide charm but also reflected the cosmopolitan culture of Dubai itself.
The Dubai Mall is opulent and grandiose
Despite its numerous expansions, which include a haunted house, cinemas, an amusement park, and a genuine dinosaur fossil, reviews for the site are incredibly mixed.
Rating the mall one star, one Trip Advisor review called it a Gaudy Spectacle of Excess.

They explained: The Dubai Mall is opulent and grandiose, catering to the biggest of consumers with luxury brands and plenty of photo opportunities.
This has so far been my worst experience in this mall. Came as needed clothing for a business trip and some food supplies for my apartment, another person ranted. Its way too big and in parts so busy youre knocking into other shoppers. Some mall staff are rude and especially at the toilets, which are no longer clean and many cubicles dont have toilet roll.
Someone else boiled over with: Horrendous place! Ridiculous size! Too bright, no signs, not enough toilets. Not enough exits- whoever designed this is an idiot! Avoid unless you love shopping with a passion, walking for miles with a bladder of a camel!
