Monk says getting off social media leads to ‘true happiness’

The Internet is an important part of the modern world although there is much more to life beyond the shadow of Instagram or TikTok.

We know social media is addictive because their algorithms specifically cater to individuals – that’s why different comments show for separate users on platforms like TikTok. A monk believes you can’t be happy unless you make conscious choices.

Monk shares his mantra for ‘true happiness’

Who could understand the meaning of happiness and fulfillment better than a Buddhist monk himself? A 38-year-old monk featured in the YouTube channel Sprouht’s video has beautiful advice for youngsters.

When asked why he became a monk, he stated his quest for a “better and happier” life as the reason, which he seems to have achieved. He believes happiness is more when expectations are less.

Having lived the life of a monk for 25 years, he has realized that to be truly happy in life, you should stop having any expectations, especially from others.

When asked if he had any advice for a stress-free life, the monk responded: “Expect less. My motto is don’t expect anything from anyone.”

“If you expect less, you’ll be much happier. It’s important to focus on your own journey. Worry less about what others think and what others do.”

Youngsters need to hear this

Youngsters suffer from a great deal of emotional turmoil, which takes an ultimate toll on their mental health and overall well-being. Studies show that more and more American students quit college due to mounting stress.

However, making significant changes to their lifestyle and social media habits can ease the emotional pain and offer more clarity in life. The monk believes people should get off social media.

Research has also shown that using the video-sharing app for just 10 minutes can have a negative impact on young women’s self-image.

The monk says: “Try to spend less time on social media, and spend more time on real things. Hiking, walking, conversing with friends, and being kind,” is what keeps an individual happy and content.
