Meaning of ‘Xandemic’ explained as TikTok users recollect their dark past
TikTok’s FYP is full of videos discussing ‘Xandemic’, whose meaning is still unknown to many. Those who survived the dark period have taken to the platform to share their experiences.

Meaning of ‘Xandemic’ as term starts trending on TikTok
According to TikTok users, ‘Xandemic’ was the period between 2013 and 2017 when most teenagers actively used the drug Xanax.
For the unversed, Xanax is the brand name for a drug used to treat anxiety and depression. It blew up in the UK and the US in the years mentioned above, prompting doctors to warn of an “emerging crisis”.
Several cases of overdosing among teenagers from Xanax were reported, turning it into a nationwide issue.
American rapper Lil Peep was among several victims of the drug overdose as he reportedly passed away in 2017 after taking fentanyl and generic Xanax.
Years later, Xanax addiction and abuse is prevalent in several parts of the world, with an increase in its usage as a recreational drug among Americans.
Users share their bitter experiences with the drug
‘Xandemic’ has become sort of a trend on TikTok, where a large number of users have started talking about Xanax to bring more awareness to the issues caused by it.
While some have admitted to being “victims of Xandemic”, others are sharing stories related to their friends and family members affected by the drug.
A few users have presented situations from their past in the form of a skit to show the transformation they’ve gone through after they gave up the drug. Meanwhile, others are glad to have survived it.
One user wrote: “It was a rough time during the Xandemic, saw many friends go down during this time, I’m glad I was able to stop.”
“You’re lucky to be here, I know a lot who arent,” wrote another user in response to a TikToker’s video about her past with Xanax.
One user who overcame the drug commented: “I truly am so shocked I was able to come out of the Xandemic relatively scot-free and was able to cut it out in about a year.”
As Xandax is still accessible and often used against the prescribed dosages, medical professionals have warned that misuse can cause addiction, overdose, and even death.
