McDonald’s sells huge bags of ice perfect for your summer BBQs and picnics
As the hot weather continues, you’re probably having a lot of summer barbecues and picnics and there’s ice is a necessity for both of those occasions.
A big bag of ice is vital to keep your drinks cool and if you don’t have a grocery store or gas station near you, there’s another place you can get it – McDonald’s!

McDonald’s sells huge bags of ice
People are rushing to TikTok to share that the fast food chain sells 8lb bags of ice, just like Sonic does. However, this ice is cubed not crushed. Videos show people going up to the drive-thru and collecting a huge clear plastic bag of ice branded with the McDonald’s logo.
The ice is purchasable at many restaurants across the US for between $1 and $2. However, it’s not an official item listed on the website and is only available at select locations, so it’s potluck whether you’re able to get it.
You could call the restaurant ahead of time to check or ask for ice alongside your Big Mac when you go through the drive-thru and see what they say. It appears to primarily be stores in the South that sell the 8lb bags.
Sometimes, they already have a freezer stacked with bags ready to go. On other occasions, a staff member fills up a bag for you upon request from their ice machine. Or, you might get a straight-up “No” – but it’s worth an ask!

‘$2 cheaper than my local grocery store’
On Reddit, many are confirming that their local McDonald’s sells bags of ice and say it’s actually cheaper than buying it elsewhere.
“I buy these through the drive thru on my way out of town on weekends I don’t have to go in a store and they are way cheaper then at the gas station,” one person wrote.
Another said: “This is my go-to for ice when having a party or get together. Either McDonald’s or Popeyes.”
“You can order it at the window as well. They will just put the ice in a bag and then youre off on your way. Good price and a good amount of ice,” a third person said.
Someone else claimed “Thats cheaper than gas stations around me” and another agreed: “That is $2 cheaper per bag than my local grocery store.”
Plus, Burger King, Chick-fil-A, Arby’s, and Dairy Queen all sell bags of ice upon request too, so you’ll never be without a cold drink this summer.
I bet you never know you could get a birthday cake at McDonald’s either!
