McDonald’s is getting rid of iconic Sweet and Sour sauce in one country

US McDonald’s fans have gone into panic this week over a rumor that the fast food chain is getting rid of Sweet and Sour sauce.

The popular dip is apricot flavor, lightly spiced with a sour aftertaste, and often paired with chicken nuggets – but is it gone for good?

McDonald’s getting rid of Sweet and Sour sauce

People began reacting to the dip’s death on social media, with one person writing on Twitter/X: “Why would McDonalds get rid of Sweet n Sour sauce?”

“Say it isn’t so!!! No more Sweet & Sour sauce!!!! Whhhhhhyyyyyy,” someone else asked the fast food chain.

The iconic sauce launched at McDonald’s more than four decades ago, in1983, alongside the famous McNugget.

It came as one of the chicken nuggets’ four signature sauces: BBQ, Honey, Hot Mustard and Sweet and Sour.

Is it in the US?

Thankfully, McDonald’s is not getting rid of Sweet and Sour sauce in the US. The popular dip is here to stay!

However, Sweet and Sour will no longer be sold in Singapore due to a lack of demand, the chain revealed in January 2024.

“We no longer serve Sweet & Sour sauce due to demand. However, you can still enjoy our Curry or Barbeque Sauce,” they said in a statement.

All of the social media posts actually came from people in Singapore, but sparked confusion across the US.

Other dips available at McDonald’s across America include Honey Mustard, Ranch, Tangy BBQ, Honey and Spicy Buffalo.

Petition to bring dip back in Singapore

One unhappy food fan in Singapore has even started a Change.org petition to bring back the much-loved dip.

“Today I found out that my favourite Sweet n’ Sour sauce has been discontinued by McDonalds Singapore,” they said.

“I feel immense disappointment, sadness, and heartbreak that they would want to discontinue this delicious masterpiece.”

The internet user said the dip is an “icon” in Singapore and “part of our childhood” so needs to be brought back.

“How are we supposed to eat our McNuggets without Sweet N’ Sour sauce?” they asked – but the sauce is sadly gone for good.
