Man thrown out of Disney World while misquoting ‘A Bug’s Life’ during conflict with security
2020 was a wild time. Case in point: the time a Florida man was banned from Disney after misquoting A Bugs Life as part of a one-man protest in the amusement park.
The anti-masker was filmed by onlookers quoting a scene from Disneys own A Bugs Life while denouncing the parks rules on masks.
Disney World introduced Covid-19 safety measures at the time, requiring all visitors to wear masks. Anti-masker Rob Fields was unhappy with that and was captured loudly comparing himself to one of the ants in A Bugs Life, alluding to Disney being the grasshopper.
Ultimately, Fields was banned from Disney Word and live-streamed the entire protest on his own Facebook page.
Mis-quoting A Bugs Life
Fields was captured in videos that later went viral denouncing the mask policy, calling out: Remember the movie that came out at Walt Disney World? It was called A Bugs Life! Remember Hopper? He said If one guy stands up, one ant stands up, everyone will all stand up at once, and theyll have no control!
The anti-masker however seemed to misphrase the quote. Fields was paraphrasing the films villain Hopper, who warned other grasshoppers about the ants rebelling.
You let one stand up to us, then they might all stand up, he said. Not quite the exact wording of Fields in Walt Disney World.
The one-man protest was posted online
Fields posted a video to his own Facebook page, in which he explained that he was challenging this mask thing.
As per Storyfuls reporting in 2020, Fields live-streamed the incident in a two-and-a-half-hour-long video from Disney World. In his stream, he reportedly claimed that pandemic death numbers were inflated and continued to tell people to repent and embrace Jesus Christ.
Fields reportedly also shared the A Bugs Life scene from which he quoted. My face and my lungs are my private property, he also wrote online.
The anti-masker was escorted out and banned
In his own footage, Fields was reportedly approached by various security guards at Disney World, asking him to leave.
Sir, I need you to keep walking, one worker could be heard telling him in the video.
In other clips, security guards alerted police to Fields presence and told them that he was refusing to wear a mask. An officer took Fields inside of an office and explained the parks policy and that it was in fact a private property.
Ultimately, a park employee read out Disney Worlds official ban policy and alerted Fields that he was now banned from the park.
I was thrown out of Walt Disney World on Burn Your Mask Day,’ Fields wrote on Facebook at the time.
