Man teaches followers how to approach girls on holiday using their native language

Despite having barrels of confidence and a technique that had earlier worked, a British man in Brazil found himself on the end of rejection as fans noticed a glaring error in his method.

Though relationships are undoubtedly difficult, getting into them in the first place can be even harder. Perhaps you’ve tried TV pickup lines or even the plethora of dating apps available on the market, with little success.

How to pick up girls, the ‘gentleman’ way

If you want to skip out on nasty dating app scams and singletons with nefarious motives, then it might be time to approach people in the real world. This can be daunting, we know.

Brit Alex Cowling (@alexc.sw) experienced this for himself after posting a TikTok earlier this week for his 584k followers.

Despite his blonde tresses and a body that would put a Greek statue to shame, Alex had difficulty chatting up girls in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. His blunder has since garnered 1 million views, 157k likes, and even a subsequent update.

Approaching the women with what he thought was their native language, Alex asked: “Hello, how are you?”

After branding her “beautiful”, he asked if they spoke English because his Portuguese was rubbish. But as it turned out, he wasn’t speaking Portuguese at all.

After chatting a little in English, largely about where he was from, Alex posed the question, “Can I get your number?”

Unfortunately, the girls were leaving the area the following day so there wasn’t really much point in swapping numbers.

In his second installment in the hilarious series, Alex tried his shot again with a woman who didn’t speak any English or Spanish. Despite the clear language barrier, Alex managed to bag her number under the promise of a later date.

That was fun 🤣 we all mess up, dont take yourselves too seriously all the time. Have a laugh about it and spread some positivity anyway 🤝.

Fans noticed one major issue with Alex’s pick up technique

Though some said it obviously helped that he was shirtless, others said his rippling abs could not detract from the fact he was speaking Spanish to the girls, not their native Portuguese.

“You spoke Spanish tho,” one person said, to which Alex responded, “What can I say, never let them know your next move.”

“ahahaha thats me also mixing Portuguese with Spanish whenever I am trying to speak Brazilian Portuguese,” another fan pointed out.

98% of the Brazilian population speak Portuguese, with the variation in Rio being known as Carioca. Spanish, French and even Danish are also spoken by groups in Rio.
