Man spent 10 days in a coma and said he saw a ‘beautiful woman’ and an unearthly realm
“Light escaped from every surface. The thing that told me that this was not Earth was that it was so clean.” These are the words from a man who spent 10 days in a coma, and although he can’t remember all of his experience, some moments stood out from what he saw.
Travis Shreeve appeared on the YouTube series Prioritize Your Life recently to share his extraordinary story of being in a comatose state for 10 days while being vaguely conscious of what was going on around him. Hes one of a disturbingly large proportion of coma patients who hold onto some level of consciousness during their slumber. Strap in, because this is quite a story…

I was a little more aware than I would ever want to be
Travis Shreeve is an accountant. During a recent episode of Prioritize Your Life, he recalled suffering a severe bout of COVID-19 that left his system weakened.
He was overweight at the time, and living an unhealthy life by his own admission. His experience of COVID-19 involved a trip to the emergency room, but he returned home that night.
The next day, he recalls walking shakily down the stairs of his house and collapsing onto the sofa, telling his wife to call an ambulance.
He remembers little bits of the journey to the hospital, but soon had great difficulty breathing and fell into a coma.
A coma can last a few seconds or several weeks. Headway, a brain injury charity, defines it as a state of depressed consciousness where a person is unresponsive to the outside world.
It can be very deep, meaning the patient shows no response or awareness at all, or very shallow, where they can make some response to speech.
Theyre caused by all sorts of things, including blood sugar level extremes, alcohol poisoning, and head injuries. According to Cleveland Clinic, around 250 people per every 100,000 fall into a coma in the UK and US per year.
Unlike the majority of coma patients, he retained a degree of consciousness. He describes being a little more aware than I would ever want to be, and his experience will likely motivate you to do everything in your power to avoid ever falling into a coma.
A week and a half inside a coma felt like three months
Travis was only in a coma for 10 days, but he says it felt like three months.
He could see nurses come in and check the monitor, and without his rational mind to make sense of what was going on, he found himself being deeply frustrated and upset that they were ignoring him.
I felt that something was dangerously wrong, he says. That week and a half felt like three months. & It was the most terrifying thing of my life, times ten. I was fighting to breathe. I fought and I fought and I fought.” In reality, a breathing apparatus was doing the work for him, but he didn’t realize that. “There was a point where I felt such exhaustion that I felt this was my last breath, my last ounce of energy.
Travis describes being in a horribly dark place, believing (wrongly, he admits) that the nurses and doctors didnt care about him. I felt like I was facing hell like that was the thing that was in front of me, he says.
I couldnt understand why they would inhibit my breathing it was a misunderstanding, the nurses and doctors were great, but I didnt understand that.
And then, at the brink of devastation, he found himself& somewhere else.
And then he awoke in a heavenly paradise with a beautiful woman
Every moment was dark until it wasnt, Travis says. Until my body was so weak that I was elsewhere. He describes waking up in a strange and beautiful place totally unlike anywhere on Earth.
I was elsewhere. It was beautiful, it was white, it was clean, and my first thoughts were, this must be virtual reality, because Ive never seen a place that looks this clean, and smells this nice, and is this well-built.
He calls it a building 3D-printed out of a pearl element, with light escaping from every surface. The thing that convinced him of its unearthliness was that it was so clean. Everything was flawlessly clean. There wasnt a single scratch in anything, everything was so perfect in this other place.
And then he saw a woman&
This woman approached. Our interactions were beautiful. I immediately felt like I knew her. & I adored this woman and could not get over her beauty. I felt this massive feeling of love that Ive never felt on this Earth, and even before she approached I felt overcome with love and understood that this was a special place.
Over the next few days, he found himself transported from reality to the pearly dream world and back again. For the full story, watch the conversation on YouTube.
