Man reportedly mauled to death by lion after trying to take a selfie with it
A man was reportedly mauled and died from excessive bleeding after trying to take a selfie with a zoo lion.
Dangerous interactions between humans and animals are not unheard of at zoos. Killer Whales have attacked trainers numerous times at Seaworld, and big cats have also claimed a few lives over the years. We all remember the social media commotion following the death of Harambe the gorilla.

The lion attack happened in India
Prahlad Gurjar, 34, was visiting the Sri Venkateswara Zoological Park in Tirupati, India, on Thursday when he came into contact with one of natures most brutal predators. Dungpar, the 12-year-old Asiatic Lion, was inside his enclosure when Gurjar began to climb the fence.
Eye-witnesses at the zoo said the man appeared drunk as he climbed the wire fence in an attempt to get a picture with the animal.
“After seeing the human being inside the enclosure, the animal attacked,” a spokesperson told PEOPLE Magazine. “Though the animal keeper and other security staff nearby tried to save the person, the animal dragged the person inside the enclosure.”
Local media reported that the man died within 10 minutes from significant bleeding.

The zoo said security measures would be revisited
After the arrival of emergency services, Dungpar was moved to another enclosure so officials could retrieve his body. He was identified through personal items and his family was informed.
“Though the watcher on duty cautioned him not to get close to the enclosure, Prahlad intentionally marched towards the enclosure which had a four-feet wall and six-feet iron fencing and jumped into it,” zoo curator C Selvam told The Times of India. “We have taken utmost precaution to prevent such incidents. We will once again review the security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.”
