Latest designer handbag is made out of 99% air and can only hold one thing

The designer brand, Coperni, recently debuted a handbag that’s as light as a bulb and can only hold one thing at a time.

Dubbed “Air Swipe Bag”, the latest innovation is made out of 99% air and 1% of glass. Still, it is “non-fragile” and can handle a pressure of 4000 times its weight. Fascinating, isn’t it?

Tiny designer handbag by Coperni is mostly air

Coperni debuted their “Air Swipe Bag” during the Fall 2024 Paris Fashion Week show and people can’t stop thinking about it ever since.

The French brand reportedly joined hands with NASA for the cutting-edge purse. The handbag is made of nanomaterial silica aerogel, which is said to be the lightest solid on earth and is used in space technology.

The material used to make the bag can withstand extreme heat as high as 1200o Celsius.

The final product came to be after 15 prototypes and it was developed by Professor Ioannis Michaloudis, serving as a visual artist and researcher of silica aerogel at the American University of Cyprus.

It can just hold one thing at a time

Aside from its mind-boggling qualities, Coperni’s new bag caught a lot of attention for its size as people wondered what could possibly fit into it. Also, it only weighs 33 grams.

When posed with the same question, the brand told the New York Post that it can hold an iPhone. Well, that serves the purpose, doesn’t it?

Of course, you can fit other things sized the same as an iPhone. But the bang doesn’t have space for anything beyond that.

Coperni hasn’t shared any details about making the Air Swipe bag available for the public at the moment.

Social media users, as usual, have reacted to the product with astonishment, while others have resorted to joking about it.

“Do I have to be nervous about dropping it when I hold it too?,” asked one.

“Not sure about its functionality, but I just want to touch it once,” said another.

One comment read: “looks like it’s made out of clouds.” when another user added: “Incredible. Major achievement. Pushing the boundaries of fashion and science, simultaneously.”
