Karen’s Diner customer fumes at staff for ‘bald’ insult in heated outburst

Karen’s diner chain is renowned for its harsh treatment of customers by staff as the interactive restaurant experience prides itself on having rude service ‘without a smile’.

The chain began as a pop-up but now has stores in locations across Australia and UK and states on its website: “Warning, rude language is used across our venues. We are not Disneyland. We strongly recommend minors to not attend past 6 pm on weekdays and 5 pm on weekends.”

While diner goers can expect to be made fun of, there are limitations as the rules state: “No racist, sexist, homophobic or ableist comments or slurs will be tolerated. No body shaming. No sexual harassment. However, they certainly live up to their motto: ‘Great Burgers and Rude Service’.

Many have pointed out the irony of complaining about a restaurant that is based on people who are stereotypical ‘Karens’ aka people who complain about things, but has the chain gone too far this time?

Man lashes out at Karens Diner staff in Brisbane over personal insult

The restaurant has one rule and it’s that they don’t make the insults personal. However, one raging diner guest has taken a dig rather personally and even walked out of the Brisbane restaurant after a staff member made a joke about his balding hairline.

The incident was captured in a viral TikTok video posted by Bec Hardgrave, a health coach in Queensland, who said: Me and my friends went to Karens diner and safe to say I probably wont come back,” reports Birmingham Live.

Hardgrave continued: I know they get paid to be mean to you but it was a little too hectic. They were making offensive comments about peoples appearances and they told my friend she needed to brush her hair. How mean is that?”

They also got inventive with their insults: They told my other friend that shes too old and they threw cups at us. Bec also revealed that the staff even asked people to leave in front of the whole restaurant: They got this group of older ladies to leave, like stand up and leave. They said to leave over the mic and they had an alarm blaring and the ladies actually got up and left, Im not sure if they paid or not.”

She added: The food was OK but get this, they told this guy he had a receding hairline and this is what he did& The video then cuts to a clip of a man shouting at the restaurant staff yelling: “Thats the one thing your f*****g sign says no body shaming, he fumed as straws and napkins lay across the floor suggesting he may have thrown them to the ground in an act of rage.

Internet users are split over Karen’s diner outburst

Even with its “handcrafted” burgers and a fantastic range of drinks on the menu, customers have become outraged by how the staff treats guests and it doesn’t seem too uncommon for heated outbursts to erupt. However, Becs followers were split on the recent situation, with many stating that this type of experience is expected, whereas others thought the restaurant staff took it too far.

One person took to the comments section of the video stating You should all know the risks before entering. If youre too soft, dont eat there. As another wrote, Isnt that the whole point of the restaurant? Whilst others penned This restaurant is a mess, its not even about being a Karen its literally bullying.

Karen’s diner goers share own experiences of the restaurant

Another guest at the restaurant took to TikTok under the username @clanciitalks to share a similar story as she recalls getting “bullied” on her recent visit. The woman went on to slam the staff for calling her a “filthy ranga” which is a derogatory term for people with ginger hair.

“I love roleplay, improv, acting, all of that stuff so I was so excited,” the TikTok user began, “But it was really horrible, it was uncomfortable. They just literally bullied me. About my hair. They said some horrible things and they weren’t even creative about it.”

She revealed that she hasn’t been talked to in that manner since high school and when the staff called her a “filthy ranga” and told her to get her “hair fixed” she admitted that “It was really triggering.”

She added: “I actually started crying when the waitress was speaking to me like that and I asked her to stop, and she said no.” The TikToker ended the video by saying she wouldn’t recommend anyone go to the diner unless they wanted to “pay to be bullied.”
