Kamala Harris hairstyle is achievable at home for just $81.82, according to a pro hairstylist

Kamala Harris once famously told Keke Palmer she doesnt use a curling iron because it would bring too much heat. Wait until she hears what Hillary Clintons purse essential is. Their conversation snowballed into fandom for VP Harriss hair, wrote one commentator, which has only gathered steam since.

Celebrity hairstylist Larry Sims has a 6-step procedure utilizing 7 beauty products that he says are all you need (besides, you know, long hair) to achieve Vice President Kamala Harris hairstyle at home. Most, but not all, are from his own company. The good news? It’ll cost you less than what Donald Trump allegedly spent on hairstyling during his Apprentice years.

Kamala Harris hair is almost as much of a talking point as Donald Trumps

Commenting on Harris getup at her swearing-in ceremony on the day of Joe Bidens inauguration as president, celebrity hairstylist Larry Sims said she represented a reflection of greatness in each of us and for millions of people across the globe.

It wasnt that we hadnt seen her hairstyle before, he clarified. A lot of black women get that same blow-out. But the hair narrative changed because of who was wearing it and on this particular occasion.

Incidentally, Harris has since offered some clarification of her own. During a July 2023 interview with Keke Palmer, she broke down her routine.

I dont use a curling iron, she said. Its too much heat. I use a round brush. It takes a while& so I use a boar bristle brush and a blow dryer.

Beauty website Glossy hailed the organic interaction, saying it snowballed into fandom for VP Harris hair. Google searches spiked, and hundreds of women of color have since duplicated the look for their social media followers.

6 steps to achieve Kamala Harris hairstyle at home

For anyone wishing to emulate the vice presidents hairstyle, Sims offers this 6-step routine, followed by a curling step. He suggests using a curling iron, which Harris no longer uses, but you can skip this part.

Also note that, since Sims is the co-founder of the brand Flawless by Gabrielle Union, he recommends using its products. There are alternatives. Anyway, here goes.

  1. Use a hydrating detangling shampoo. Sims recommends one that contains rice bran oil.
  2. Apply a restorative hair conditioner. Sims contains Brazilian Bacuri butter, olive oil, and castor seed oil.
  3. Spray on a detangling leave-in conditioner and comb it through.
  4. Add a heat protection spray before applying any heat. If youre not applying any heat, leave this step out.
  5. Use literally a pea-sized amount of a smoothing blow dry cream, and work it into the hair.
  6. Blow dry with a good brush and a nose attachment to help elongate the hair follicles. When blow drying, try to get as much stretch out of the hair as possible, he says.

Sims says you should straighten first, then use a large barrel curling iron and curl the hair away from the face. Then curl inward at the hair tips for that fluid, really bouncy flow.

Finally, use a dry texturizing spray followed by a touch of restoring exotic oil to tame any fly-aways, especially if you are making an appearance on a cold, windy morning.

I love how light andfresh our Vice Presidents hair looked that glorious morning. It was modern and beautiful. A new day.

Altogether, the products he recommends can be bought online for $81.82.
