A newly-wed couples chips wall at their wedding party has split opinions online, thanks to the unconventional catering choice.

The wall was set out at the wedding, displaying rows of popular chips and inviting guests to grab a bike and tuck in.

A chips wall at the wedding

Wedding planner @hannahplanner shared the creation to her TikTok account in November, gaining over 900k views on the moment. The video has also gained over 42,000 likes.

This came out in the evening at one of my weddings and it went down so well. So if you love crisps [potato chips] then this is your sign to get a crisps wall, she explained.

The wall in question was made of wire, with various bags of chips attached to it, ready to be pulled away and eaten by guests. The multi-colored wall was huge and featured various brands and flavors of chips, meaning all guests would be able to find one they liked.

Chip walls have become somewhat of a trend amongst weddings in the past year – with many couples making their own DIY versions.

Thats not to say it hasnt been met with controversy online, causing confusion and shock across social media platforms. A chip wall is sure to split opinions.

The internet was split over the wedding food decor

TikTok users were split on the chip wall, voicing opinions from both sides of the fence. While some loved the wall, others were less than enthusiastic.

We had ours for the drinks receptions but bought too many crisps so we just restocked ready for the evening reception. It went down a treat, recommend, commented one user.

My cousin had this, absolutely brilliant. There was some mix-up last minute with canapes and they did this instead, we loved it, added another.

Others however voiced concern over the mess they may make. Dont do it, warned one user. Ive been to a few weddings with crips walls and everyone ends up with disgusting crisp fingers.

People are going to look at this in five years and realize how hideous it is, added another user.

The origins of a potato chip wall

Seemingly, the first couple to go viral for their chips wall at a wedding was in 2020. A Scottish couple made headlines for their wall of bagged potato chips. They told outlets at the time that the wall cost them $65 and was made from timber, chicken wire, and spray paint.

The idea came after a family member suggested they offer a chips chart instead of a candy cart. That then morphed into the idea of a chips wall.
