Instagram notes not showing after app update? What to do
Instagram has just launched Notes, but the new feature is not showing for many users – here’s why and what you need to know about the new Instagram update.
On Tuesday, December 13, 2022, Instagram announced an update that would include Notes, as well as other features, aimed at facilitating group communication on the photo-sharing app.
However, lots of people are finding that after updating the app, Notes does not seem to be working or showing up on their phones.
We cover the latest Instagram update and why Instagram notes doesn’t work for some below.
What is Instagram Notes?
The Instagram Notes feature is described by Meta as “a new way to share your thoughts using just text and emojis.”
Notes are short-form posts of 60 characters or less, similar to a tweet, that you can now share with your close friends or followers who follow you back.
Meta explained that Notes is its response to what it defined as users’ desire to share their thoughts in an “easy” and “lightweight” way.
The press release said: “From asking for recommendations to sharing what theyre up to, Notes give people a casual and spontaneous way to express themselves and connect with each other.”
Why is Notes not showing for me?
You may have updated your Instagram app and found that it looks no different than before. This is not because there is anything wrong with your phone or app, but rather because Notes seems to only be available in certain locations.
The feature was officially rolled out on December 13, 2022, after having gone through a testing phase of several months when it was available to a limited number of users, but it still is not showing up for others.
Despite Meta stating the new micro posting feature’s official launch, it appears that Notes is still not available in a number of locations, including the UK.
Instagram has not made it clear which regions do and do not have access to the new feature or when this might change as of yet.

How to see notes on Instagram
If you happen to be in one of the chosen areas, once you have completed the latest update, you will be able to make use of Notes.
Notes can be shared by going to the top of the inbox, selecting followers or people on your Close Friends List, and then writing and sharing a note.
Other Instagram users’ Notes will show at the top of your inbox for 24 hours, and replies to your own Notes will be displayed as DMs. The note will be displayed as a speech bubble coming from your profile picture.
Examples of notes in press photos from Meta included things like: “Why is tomorrow Monday?!” and “Finally landing in NYC! <3”
Upcoming Instagram features from the update
Notes is just one of many new features that Instagram is planning on rolling out or testing. The app announced that Candid Stories and group profiles are to come.
Candid Stories appear to be very similar to the BeReal format. Meta described the feature that they are starting to test as “a new way for you and your friends to capture and share what youre doing right now in a story thats only visible to those who also share their own.”
Reportedly, users will receive a daily notification reminding them to post a Candid Story, as well as a multi-author story at the top of the feed where candid stories can be viewed.
Group profiles aim to emulate the nature of a group chat, but in a more streamlined way.
“Whenever you share content to a Group Profile, that content will only be shared to group members instead of your followers, and will be posted on the Group Profile instead of your own,” Meta added.
