I tried the fluffy scrambled egg trick but it was disgusting

On the quest for the perfect plate of scrambled eggs, I took advice from chefs who called for the mixture to be boiled in a frying pan full of water. I should have sought other advice.

While TikTok might be the land of silly dance challenges, the video-sharing app is also a gold mine for food-related hacks, tips, and tricks. Recently, content creators revealed how to shell an egg using a glass jar.

You should boil your scrambled eggs, the chef said

Scrambling eggs might sound like a simple task, but the journey to fluffy perfection is not as easy as it sounds. It also doesn’t help that hot tips tend to contradict one another on important details like pepper, salt, oil, and butter.

After I first became vegetarian, which I have since abandoned with shame, eggs were my primary source of protein. Through years of boiling, scrambling, frying, and baking them, I’d like to say I’m fairly clued into what makes a good egg dish. Still, I jumped at the chance to try out another hack.

Boiling your scrambled eggs in water has become a hot topic on TikTok, where content creators like @livecomposed celebrate the cooking method’s simplicity.

To begin, get a frying pan of salted water bubbling away on your hob. After whisking your eggs with whatever added extras you desire (I like some chili flakes, pepper, and parsley), pour the mixture into the water and stir gently.

Once the eggs are at your desired consistency, fish them out with a slotted spoon and place them onto your plate.

The verdict is in, and it’s not good

Admittedly, I feel like boiling your scrambled eggs would be the perfect method for someone unfamiliar with the kitchen. It could also be a great gateway method for parents wanting to get their kids in the kitchen.

For adults, or anyone who is somewhat skilled in cooking, I feel as though the TikTok egg hack would provide more issues than solutions. For one, my plate gained a small pool of eggy-water that I could have done without.

In terms of flavor, the water-boiled scrambled eggs were considerably more bland than their fried counterparts. Granted, I could have seasoned additionally, but I wanted to keep the recipe consistent with what I’d usually use.

I’m not the only one who feels this way, as one person penned on TikTok: “I was looking for cool scrambled egg recipes to do and now Ive just completely lost my appetite.”

“Someday someone will find a way to make scrambled eggs without the water,” another person joked.

Sadly, the tip was not a resounding success like the 5-5-5 method for boiling eggs. Just because you can do something, doesn’t mean you should.
