I solved all my mold and condensation problems with a new dehumidifier

Condensation and damp is a problem that affects countless homes each winter but I recently invested in a new dehumidifier and it has made a world of difference.

Earlier this month, I wrote an article here on The Focus offering seven tips for dealing with condensation, many of which I employed myself as my home and its windows were prone to attracting moisture when the weather got cold. However, since the article was published, I have invested in a more heavy-duty dehumidifier than the small one I previously used and, for want of a better expression, it has been life-changing.

My previous morning routine

Before getting my new dehumidifier, I would wake up to condensation on all of the upstairs windows in my house, particularly if Id left some washing drying indoors which would leave the windows drenched.

This may partially be due to the old age of the house, which likely needs some work doing, but I digress.

Every day Id have to get up, crack open the windows (letting the freezing cold air in) and break out my trusty Krcher Window Vac and wipe down all of the affected windows before settling down to work.

My new dehumidifier has been life-changing

Now that Ive got this new dehumidifier, which is capable of extracting 42 pints (20L) of moisture from the air in 24 hours (depending on the conditions), I get up to find that theres not a drop of condensation on any of the windows, save for potentially a minuscule amount in the bedroom where my girlfriend and I have been breathing throughout the night – even if there’s been washing drying.

Instead of laboriously wiping down each window, I now simply empty the almost 8-pint tank (3.7L) of water and my work is done.

Previously, I had used a small dehumidifier capable of collecting 10 oz (300ml) of water a day, which would take three days to fill its tiny 30 oz (900ml) tank. While that may suit a single medium-sized room, the new heavy-duty dehumidifier fills its much larger tank in only a matter of hours and has been well worth investing in.

Emptying the tank is immensely satisfying too, and has me recreating this scene from HBOs Succession (WARNING: Strong Language) on a daily basis as I know that the quite ridiculous amount of water Im pouring away could instead have condensated on my windows or have caused damp issues in the long run.

While I cant suggest the exact model to readers as its unavailable in the US, I would wholeheartedly recommend researching and buying your own if your home suffers from condensation, damp or mold.
