How to spot a ‘liar’ as body language expert shares five ‘obvious’ signs

We have all had our fair share of encounters with “liars”, but there are five major signs to spot them easily, according to a body language expert.

Just like knowing the signs of an insecure man can save you from a troubled relationship, being aware of a person’s tendency to lie can stop you from being taken advantage of.

Body Language Expert Reveals Five Signs Of A Liar

Mentalist and body language expert Bedros Spidey Akkelian details different methods used by professional interrogators to find out if they’re being lied to.

Spidey is a licensed hypnotist with a degree in social psychology. He’s appeared on renowned television networks and streaming platforms such as Netflix, The Today Show, Fox, etc.

He uses his YouTube channel to share “expert secrets” he’s gathered over the years. He has a certification in criminal interrogation, and body language analysis, as well as “10+ years as an award-winning mentalist.”

If you think you’re being played by a liar, watch out for these five signs as the mentalist breaks them down.

Convincing Statements

While a single sign isn’t substantial enough to prove that someone’s a liar, a cluster of warnings shouldn’t be overlooked and a person talking themself up is among them.

Spidey says people with the ability to deceive others tend to speak highly of themselves, even in the most inappropriate situations.

This serves as a distraction when they’re trying to hide the truth, by drawing others’ attention away from the actual lie.

If the person you’re speaking with blinks a lot, they are probably lying. The mentalist says humans blink 16 times a minute on average.

While some may blink more times or even less in a minute, if you find someone blinking their eyes rapidly when they are confronted or are presented with a situation, you could be dealing with a liar.

Spidey says humans blink slower when they are engrossed in a conversation as a sign of genuine interest. Whereas, a high rate of eye blinking indicates otherwise.

Failure To Answer

When a person tries to deviate the conversation with a response that doesn’t necessarily answer your question, it’s a sign they are lying.

Failing to provide a specific answer leans toward the fact that they are hiding something from you.

Lip Compression

Spidey says that a person with lying tendencies may compress their lips a lot in the midst of the conversation.

This is either because they are stopping themselves from saying the truth or regret saying something they didn’t want to.

The lip-thinning happens when you’re forcefully trying to keep the words inside your mouth.

Inconsistency

A liar’s narration lacks inconsistency, according to the mentalist. This could occur within their story or in their response that’s normally expected. Signs of deception become more evident when a person tries to mask them.

But Spidey couldn’t emphasize more the fact that a person cannot be branded a liar for showing one of the above-mentioned signs or behaviors. Being aware of the different aspects of deception, however, helps you spot lies early on.
