TikTok users are petrified of ‘bloody showers’, after hearing stories about shower doors randomly exploding.
Discussions about how and why the glass used in making shower doors would fall apart are on the rise following several dangerous explosions.

TikTok users share scary experiences of shower door explosions
It can happen to anyone at any time, without any warning. Several users have compared the sound of the door explosion to “gunfire”, while others have shown the serious damages it can cause.
Window expert, Mark Meshulam, told ABC News that a glass door can shatter into pieces due to pre-existing damage or imperfect installation.
He explained that the main reason for a glass door to break would be the “damage to the glass around the edges of that door”. Another reason is “microscopic imperfections” caused during installation that can grow into larger cracks within the glass and pressurize the layers eventually causing it to shatter.
Although tempered glass is said to be safe in the event of breakage, it would shatter into millions of little pieces that “don’t separate quickly enough from previous damage,” and can still cause serious injuries.
One TikTok user posted a video showing their bathroom floor, full of broken glass pieces, and captioned it: “When you hear a loud bang in the middle of the night and get up to see that your shower door just decided to explode.”
Another terrifying clip showed stains of blood all over the bathroom as the shower door exploded when somebody was bathing.
“The shower door randomly exploded while showering. Many lacerations and stitches,” shared another.
Glass expert shows how to avoid it
A simple safety tip can save you and your loved ones from exploding shower doors.
Glass expert Mark Messier says you can prevent the shower door from falling apart by using the adhesive safety film over the glass at the time of its installation. He demonstrates the same in the video.
So even if the glass happens to explode for the reasons mentioned above, the film manages to hold it together, thus preventing it from shattering and piercing through your skin.
If you find yourself in the unfortunate event of a glass explosion, you’re advised not to walk out of the bathroom immediately for your own safety as you may end up stepping on the shattered pieces and hurt yourself.
