Hospice nurse’s straightforward answer when dying patient asks her about the afterlife

A hospice nurse was celebrated by her followers online after she detailed a heartwarming story about a critical patient who was curious about the afterlife, God, and what her existence could look like after death.

Thanks to the modern age and the rise of social media sites like TikTok, Instagram, and Twitter, we are closer than ever to the handy advice of medical professionals. Just recently, a gut scientist outlined the best cheeses for those who suffer from lactose intolerance.

The hospice nurse was dubbed a ‘kind soul’

Content creator Julie (@hospicenursejulie), whose primary job is as a hospice nurse, boasts over 300k followers on Instagram and a further 1.5 million followers on TikTok where she usually posts content around her job in the medical field.

On Thursday, Julie posted a video where she recalled a conversation with one of her patients which she also included in her book, Nothing To Fear. The hospice nurse said she arrived at a property to find her patient “cold” and abrasive, offering one-word answers despite Julie’s best attempts to create a dialogue.

Thankfully, her moon seemed to improve over time and she soon led down on the sofa in silence, her hands behind her head.

“I’ve been a Christian my whole life and I’m not afraid to die,” the patient allegedly said to her. “But am I really going to close my eyes, take my last breath, and wake up and see God?”

Julie soon realized that the patient’s request was not a rhetorical question, and while she wanted to tell her everything she wanted to hear, Julie took a breath and told her “the truth.”

“The truth is, I don’t know,” she told her ailing patient. “I just said I don’t know, and it was so scary. And with that, she cackled.”

The patient was obviously in good spirits as she laughed about the awkward response and responded, “I guess I’ll find out soon.” Within moments, they were laughing and hugging each other.

“I didn’t say a word except for I don’t know, I didn’t do anything to reassure her. I just answered her with my truth and that was the greatest lesson someone could have ever taught me,” Julie said, adding that the simple act of “sharing truths” brought them together during what could have been a very dark conversation.
