Futuristic new Eye Tracking feature lets you control your iPhone with your eyes

Apple just unveiled their latest mobile operating system, iOS 18, and one of the coolest new features is Eye Tracking.

It sounds like something out of a sci-fi movie, but with the new update you can control your device with only your eyes!

Apple’s new Eye Tracking feature

Eye Tracking is a new Accessibility feature, designed to make it easier for users with physical disabilities to control their iPad or iPhone using their eyes.

“Powered by artificial intelligence, Eye Tracking gives users a built-in option for navigating iPad and iPhone with just their eyes,” Apple said.

It only takes a few seconds to set up, and you can then swipe, tap buttons and do other gestures using solely your vision.

The feature works across iPadOS and iOS apps and doesnt require any additional Apple hardware or accessories.

Take a look at Eye Tracking

iOS 18 doesn’t officially launch until September, but many have downloaded the test version and taken us inside the new feature early.

Technology influencer Tech With William shared a video of Eye Tracking on TikTok, showing that you set it up in Settings with just a few clicks. Once turned on, you are asked to follow a colored dot that moves around the edge of the screen with your eyes.

After that, Eye Tracking is turned on and you can see him scrolling through the Settings with just his eyes in the clip. A grey circle moves around the screen like a mouse, and a white box surrounds each app or section to show which part you want to select.

To click on something using only your eyes, all you have to do is keep looking one selected area for a few seconds. Then, the device will press and open that page. So clever!

The calculator has had a huge upgrade with iOS 18 too – it’s like an entire math notebook on your iPhone!

How to set up Eye Tracking

When iOS 18 arrives in the fall, you will be able to set up eye tracking in four simple clicks:

  1. Go to ‘Settings’
  2. Tap ‘Accessibility’
  3. Click ‘Eye Tracking’
  4. Turn the slider to ‘On’
