Former Apple employee reveals ingenious hack to make use of your old wired headphones
When Apple removed the headphone jack from its more recent iPhone models, it prompted a shift towards wireless devices such as AirPods but an ex-Apple employee has highlighted an ingenious hack thatll make you wish youd kept your old wired headphones.
TikTok creator and former Apple employee Tyler Morgan, known by the username @hitomidocameraroll, regularly posts hints and tips on how to get the most out of your iPhone, and a recent video sees him sharing a surprising benefit of using wired headphones.

We all know the feeling of fear and panic when we accidentally drop our increasingly expensive phones and if it does ever happen, well rush over to check our precious devices to see if the screen is still intact or has been shattered into a million tiny pieces.
However, the hack shared by Tyler Morgan involves fishing out your old wired set of headphones and using them as a way of protecting your phone should you drop it.
These headphones and a good case are the best protection you can have, he says as the video begins.
He then demonstrates the usefulness of the headphones as he purposefully drops his phone before using the connected headphone wire to break the devices fall and catch it before it hits the ground.
Tyler also shows that wrapping the headphone wire around the phone can also work as a makeshift screen protector.
If you cant afford cases and screen protectors these make a good $15 option, Tyler says. I think that these are seriously underrated. I think these sound debatably just as good as the second generation of AirPods which is what most people have.
Social media reacts
Tylers retro yet ingenious hack has inspired quite a reaction from commenters on social media, with several saying they prefer wired headphones over their wireless counterparts.
One TikTok user said: I prefer them because there is no battery meaning you can always use them.
A second added: I need a pair, Im just tired of charging my Bluetooth earphones every single time.
The amount of times my headphones saved my phone now that I think about it, commented a third.
A fourth noted: Also even if you dont save it but instead the plug comes out, youre still slowing down the momentum it has hitting the ground. Either way, it helps.
However, this commenter noted a common problem that many of us will have experienced with wired headphones: The problem is that one ear just stops working.
And finally, this TikTok user pointed out: The whole reason people get AirPods is because the cable always gets tangled and you cant charge your phone and listen to music at the same time.
