Former alcoholic recounts final 24 hours of drinking – ‘absolute rollercoaster of emotions’
Alcohol addiction is destructive and quitting the dangerous habit is especially hard for someone dependent on it for a long time.
A former alcoholic’s journey to deaddiction is inspiring many as she talks about her life before and after its transformation, including the final day of drinking nearly three years ago.

Former alcoholic recollects her last day of drinking
TikTok user Lauren, who goes by the handle “laurenissober” is vocal about her past struggles with alcohol. As with every addict who couldn’t imagine giving up the substance, she flip-flopped on her decision on the final day of drinking, after which she entered a detox program and never looked back.
In one of her videos, she takes her followers through the 24 hours of life before she went sober which was an absolute “rollercoaster of emotions.” She emerged successful, nevertheless.
It was April 25, 2021, when she woke up around 6 A.M. to another day of alcohol cravings. She went straight to the kitchen to drink her secret stash of vodka hidden in the back of the fridge while her husband and kid were asleep.
“I went to drink that vodka not to have a Sunday fun day, but to get my hands to stop shaking, my heart to stop racing, and to get my mind to quiet down,” she admits. Lauren leaned on the substance as she suffered from chronic anxiety.
She went about her day as usual and was watering the plants in her garden around 9 A.M. when she saw her husband and son leave in the car, only to return sometime later followed by three more cars that carried her family members – father, mother, stepmother, and her sister.
By now, Lauren wasn’t only drinking, but chugging the alcohol at home.
She grappled with too many emotions
Lauren realized in an instance her family had planned an intervention, which turned into a “love fest” as it unfolded. Each one of them read out letters addressed to her expressing concern and love as her relationship with alcohol had turned extremely unhealthy.
She cried like a “little girl” the whole day and continued to drink in front of her family when the realization struck that she was soon going to find herself in rehabilitation.
Her family helped her write an email to her team at work stating “health-related reasons” for her sudden leave and they stuck around the entire day to ensure she wasn’t alone.
Although she was “terrified” she accepted the help offered to her. “I am very grateful the help came to me,” says Lauren.
She drank throughout the day, which her family was understanding of. She’s “glad” they saw her drunk the previous night because her problem became obvious. She drank even in the morning and got rid of all the alcohol bottles before leaving home to check into detox.
“I got in the car and I sat in the backseat. My husband drove and my dad sat in the passenger seat and I cried like a little girl the whole way there. And, that was the last time I drank,” she said.
However, the previous day was an “absolute roller coaster of emotions” for Lauren.
