Florida local arrives home to discover her entire driveway had been ‘stolen’

A woman in Florida has fallen victim to a bizarre theft in which the driveway of her family home was stolen, leaving her in a desperate financial situation.

A rather unique story has seen a family in the Sunshine State left without a place to park their car. Florida woman Amanda Brochu has been forced to appeal to the internet after a run-in with a contractor left her and her loved ones without a crucial part of their property.

Florida woman appears to have entire driveway stolen

Brochuwas in the process of trying to sell her house in Apopka and had made contact with a number of contractors in an attempt to get a quote for the relaying of her driveway.

According to reports, a contractor had been instructed by a local man who claimed to own Brochu’s property to go to the house and tear out the concrete slabs that made up the driveway.

Though talks between the contractor and the Tampa area man, who went by the name Andre, broke down when the contractor requested proof that Adrew owned the property – footage obtained by a doorbell camera on Brochu’s house showed a bulldozer arriving and removing the driveway a week later.

It is unclear who exactly was responsible for the clearing of the driveway, though its unprompted removal left Brochu in financial disarray.

Driveway theft deemed “a scam”

Having reached out to other homeowners online and having spoken to her real estate agent, Brochu was able to confidently assume that she had fallen guilty to some form of scam – though exactly what type of scam it was remains unclear.

The Florida mother has been quoted a price of $10,000 to fix the driveway, which she claims she does not have, having only recently repaired her roof and carried out other renovations on the property.

Brochu is in the process of buying another house, leaving her finances hanging precariously in the balance. If she doesn’t fix the driveway she may struggle to sell the house, but if she forks out $10,000 to fix the driveway then she may not be able to afford to buy the new property.

At the time of writing, the Orange County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident, though no arrests have been made.

Brochu’s GoFundMe smashes target

In order to account for her financial woes, Brochu reached out to the online community – explaining her unique story in the hope that the generosity of strangers would help her to get her house move back on track.

Taking to GoFundMe, Brochu set a goal of $10,000 – a number she said would help offset the “astronomical” costs of replacing the driveway, so that she could move into her “forever home” with her children.

And, thankfully, the target was smashed within three days of the fundraising page going live.

At the time of writing, the Floridians have raised over $13,500, some three and a half thousand dollars in excess of their target, with a wave of supportive comments currently sitting beneath their appeal message.

“Im so sorry to hear this happened to you and your family,” wrote one donor named Lloyd. “Good luck in the future and enjoy your new home!”

“What an awful thing to happen,” added another contributor. “I hope this helps a little, and you can move to your new home without delay.”

Brochu has now been able to call time on donations and should be able to retile the driveway area without allowing her new purchase to fall through.
