Fans rate Costco’s new bao buns ’10/10′ if you remember two simple tricks
The new addition to Costco’s dinner menu – BBQ Garlic Chicken Bao buns – has gathered rave reviews on TikTok, but a couple of users have pointed out that the boxes of the refrigerated item they picked were “dry or “bready”. However, there are easy ways to enhance its taste.
Costco introduced the “delicious” Garlic BBQ Chicken Bao at the end of 2023 and the frozen version of the traditional Chinese food has grown in popularity among Americans in the last couple of months owing to the convenience at which it can be prepared.

Costco’s Chicken Bao Buns is a favorite among TikTok users
The “fully cooked and ready in minutes” twin pack is priced at $9.99. Each box consists of 6 bao buns, which can be found in the refrigerated section in Costco stores.
Although, shaped differently than the traditional bao buns, the dumplings consist of fillings made of chicken and BBQ sauce. The chickens used in the dish are raised “without antibiotics”, according to the package.
Several TikTok users have posted videos of themselves trying out the Bao Buns found at Costco and the majority of them have recommended grabbing one of these boxes, especially when you’re craving Chinese food that doesn’t take long to prepare and is easy on your pocket, too.
One user reviewed the item as: “This was epic! 10/10 recommended!”, while another added: “These were actually pretty good. I wish they had it in more flavors.”
Another TikTok said the bao buns were “magnificent”, while reviewing it in her video.
How to enhance the taste of read-to-eat dumplings
It seems a few of them who tried the dish, either did not follow the instructions on the package or were “unfortunate” to have ended up with “dry” dumplings. Some of them were seen eating it out of the refrigerator directly, but that’s not the right way to go about it. You can make it taste better with two simple tricks.
- Remove the bao buns from the box, and place them on a damp paper towel before microwaving them for 30 seconds.
- You can also steam the bao buns to make them “juicier”.
Another lesser-known but supposedly effective method is to air fry the bao buns after taking them out of the package or dip them in any sauce of your choice to add more flavor to the dumplings, although soy sauce is believed to taste best with the dish.
The Okami Bao at Costco is only available with Chicken and BBQ sauce filling at the time of this writing.
