Family in turmoil after sister decides to name her child after dead nephew
A family is set for one hell of a blow-up as a woman plans to name her unborn child after her older sister’s deceased son, calling it a “surprise.”
Blood may be thicker than water but that doesn’t mean that families are simple, as evidenced by the mom who put her daughter’s dog down. Though your house might be full of chaos that puts even the most confident gentle parent to shame, it’s reasonable to assume your sister is not planning to name her child after your dead son.

‘She said that I’m being dramatic’
Naming your child must be one of the most difficult experiences for a new parent, after all, they are stuck with it if you change opinions in the future. Technically, there are no wrong names, but if there was one, it might be the name of your deceased nephew.
The troubling story was shared this week on Reddit’s AITA thread, which earlier sparked stories like the mom who regifted her nephew’s Christmas present.
“I have two sisters, I’m the middle sister. My older sister (OS) lost her son late 2022, so it hasn’t even been two years yet. He passed at 6 months due to SIDS,” they began, “My OS has been mourning him ever since. My little sister (LS) is pregnant with her first child now and she found out it’s a boy.”
Her little sister soon shared her intention of naming her son after her deceased nephew, which the original poster knew was an awful idea. To really rub it in, she planned on keeping it a secret from their older sister.
Though the original poster said her sister meant well, she knew their older sister would not take kindly to the reference. Despite telling her this, the little sister was cemented in her reasoning.
She told her older sister, of course, who was seriously annoyed and dubbed the gesture “incredibly disgusting and selfish.”
After the situation blew up, the rest of the family sided with the original poster and her older sister, subsequently cutting the younger sibling off in the process. Despite that, she still intends to name her child after her older sister’s dead son.
The verdict is in, and it’s not looking good for the younger sister

For once, the internet seems unified in its belief that the little sister was “all kinds of wrong” for choosing to name her child after her dead nephew.
“Your little sister isnt dealing with the consequences of her own actions well and is blaming you. You didnt do anything wrong,” one person said.
Another wrote: “My cousin lost a son to SIDs last August(the one year anniversary was on the 2nd) and I could NEVER IMAGINE naming a baby after her son.”
A third said: “I can understand naming a baby after their grandparents or an aunt/uncle. However, naming a baby after their late toddler nephew (who died from SIDS) is to sink a knife into a wound that is healing.”
