Dogs aren’t just Tinder’s best friend as uncommon pet helps you ‘get a date’

While everyone might already understand the innate power of a cat or dog, you might be surprised to learn that another pet is actually one of the most desirable animals for your date.

The power of a good pet is not an unknown thing, and yet, we humans are constantly reminded of why our four-legged buddies are the best friends we could ask for. Not only do they encourage us to get outside and touch the grass, but they also have a dramatic effect on our mental health. Though these benefits are well-documented, we had no idea that the right pet could help you bag a date.

You can get a hot date using nothing but your adorable pet

If you’re one of the people who kiss their dog on the mouth, then it might be time to download Tinder and get back out in the dating world.

In a survey from 2019, YouGov UK identified that 40% of people are more willing to date someone if they have a dog as 11% admitted to being put off by canine companions. On the other side of the pet spectrum, 29% said they would be drawn to someone with a cat, while 20% said they were turned off by them.

Though dogs and cats were arguably automatic inclusions on the list, given that they are the most popular pets in most Western countries, the third most desirable pet was a definite surprise.

Shockingly, 15% of the survey participants said they would be interested in someone who owned a tortoise of all things. The inclusion was particularly surprising given the fact that only 2 million households own the shelled reptile.

Though cats, dogs, and tortoises topped the YouGov list, other pet options could increase your chances of finding a date.

After the tortoise came rabbits, with an equal 13% being drawn and repelled by their floppy ears. Miniature pigs, parrots, and goldish all came in next with 11% of those surveyed stating they would date someone who owned one.

At the bottom of the list came guinea pigs and hamsters with 9% and 10% respectively, followed by three animals where the negative responses outweighed the positive ones. As it turns out, no one wants to date someone with a lizard, snake, or spider.
