Dog trainer breaks down perfect time to start puppy training to stop bad behaviors
Did you think you could take a backseat during your new puppys first few weeks, or even months, of development? Well, think again.
Some dog breeds are more amenable to training than others. Chow chows, for example, are stubborn at best and aggressive at worst. Just dont bark commands at them, expecting them to know what you want them to do. Luckily, dog trainer Cherries Hoggs is here with sage advice about when you should start with your pup.

Dog trainer says exactly when puppy training should start
When people ask us what age they should train their puppy, says Frankie of Cherry Hoggs on TikTok, the answer is immediately.”
The most important thing you can do is become your puppys pack leader, she goes on. Cherry Hoggs is Cockney rhyming slang for dogs. According to the (two-person) companys website, Frankie has a lifetime experience working with dogs from breeding puppies, agility to behavior modification. She taught her partner, Charlie, how to be a pack leader.
It doesnt begin when your dog is six months old or when theyre bad, she continues. It should be maintained throughout their entire dog training experience.
To get your new puppy to grow into a healthy balanced dog, you must demonstrate leadership from day one, she says.
Puppies sense our confidence levels and will take control if they perceive us as weak. When this happens, bad behaviors such as excessive barking, chewing, leash pulling, or anxiety will develop.
Dog trainer explains pack theory
On their website, Frankie and Charlie address the notion that pack theory has been debunked.
They explain that within packs of dogs, there are hierarchies, which are the result of each dogs unique characteristics and personality.
The hierarchy is a pecking order that each animal in the group instinctively understands. Stronger, more assertive animals lead the pack, while more submissive members follow.
While groups of dogs dont tend to have an aggressive dominant alpha, there still is a leader of the pack, they write.
They also challenge the belief some pet owners have that they are their dogs mom or dad, i.e., the relationship between a human and a dog shouldn’t be akin to the relationship between a human adult and its child.
Cherry Hoggs is run by two people from the UK. It operates in Minnesota. They have more than 130K followers on TikTok.
