What is AI chatbot Digi?

“Digi offers a unique blend of lifelike interaction, stunning avatars, and secure, compassionate connections,” a description on the Google Play store says.

It’s an AI companion available on iOS and Android that “truly understands and evolves with you” with “unparalleled realism in conversations”.

Users create their own personalised avatar who they can interact with romantically using text-based conversations.

There is a progression system, which means you start as”Friends” and gain more intimate dialogue as you progress.

The app offers a “unique blend of lifelike interaction, stunning avatars, and secure, compassionate connections”.

‘Future of romantic companionship’

The concept was founded by two men called Andrew Young and John Rooney in April 2023 and launched on December 15.

Young described Digi as the “future of AI romantic companionship” in an announcement post on Twitter/X.

He worked closely with the people who designed Mike Wazowski and Rapunzel in Tangled to create the avatars.

They are said to have a unique style that “eliminates the uncanny valley, while also feeling real, human, and sexy”.

There is also a voice mode with 20 to choose from, so it feels like you’re actually talking to your virtual partner.

App is still being designed

Right now, the app is still a work in progress and the video avatar seen in the promotion clip isn’t available on the app.

However, the founder said the advert is “a vision for what we can and will do” with the avatars and animations.

He didn’t expect the huge response and December 15 was supposed to be a “soft launch” to their small internal community.

“We’re a small team with limited resources and time, but we will bring this vision of the trailer to life,” Young said.
