A dentist has shared some quick and easy things everyone can start doing today to improve their oral health, including a strange hack that involves cheese.

Dr. Shaadi Manouchehri said implementing these three steps into your daily routine will “instantly” give you a healthier mouth.
“I’ve been a dentist for almost 10 years, and I can guarantee that at least one of these things will be a surprise to you,” she said.
1. Mouthwash before you brush your teeth
Her first tip is to start using mouthwash before you brush your teeth. Most tend to do it after, but this can make you more prone to decay as it washes the protective layer of fluoride the toothpaste has left on your teeth. Using mouthwash before brushing loosens any debris that is lodged between the teeth and keeps the fluoride intact.
2. Coat your floss with toothpaste
Flossing is a really important oral hygiene step that removes food particles and plaque, the sticky film on your teeth that can lead to cavities. You can make it even more beneficial by coating the floss in toothpaste, which gets the fluoride toothpaste right into the gaps between your teeth, where cavities are most likely to form.
3. Follow sugary snacks with cheese
Now for the strangest hack. If you have a sweet tooth and love to snack on sweet foods, eat a cube of cheese afterwards. This neutralizes the acid that is created by the sugar, which is responsible for tooth decay. The acid slowly dissolves the enamel and creates holes in the teeth, but eating cheese will minimize this damage.
How to maintain good dental hygiene at home
For a healthy mouth, MedlinePlus says everyone should do the following things:
- Brush your teeth twice a day
- Use a fluoride toothpaste
- Clean between your teeth every day with floss
- Limit sugary snacks
- Don’t smoke or chew tobacco
