Dentist explains ideal amount of toothpaste you should use and dispels myth over rinsing
Most of us have been using the wrong amount of toothpaste it seems. A dentist reveals how much of it is needed every time you brush and if you should rinse your mouth afterward.
I, for one, wasn’t aware of the facts related to dental health. How much toothpaste I use on my brush varies with my mood, time, and many other things. But a dentist has revealed the right amount for kids and adults.

How much toothpaste should you use?
Dr. Suhail Mohiuddin reveals the recommended amount of toothpaste you should use each time you brush and it’s just about pea size.
Yes, the dentist talks about people using extra toothpaste to complain about foaming in the mouth, whereas all you need is a pea-sized of it to clean your teeth thoroughly.
Meanwhile, children below the age of three should use as little as a rice grain. Shocking much? Just imagine all the money you could have saved by using so little toothpaste.
Several doctors have seconded Dr. Suhail’s suggestion by clarifying that extra toothpaste doesn’t necessarily clean your teeth more – even a third of it, instead of spreading it across the length of the brush, will serve the purpose.
Dentist recommends against rinsing after brushing
This may come as a shocker to many. The TikTok dentist recommends against rinsing your mouth with water immediately after brushing.
According to NHS, you should avoid it because the water can wash away the concentrated fluoride found in toothpaste, thus reducing its preventative effects.
Dr. Suhail says leaving your mouth as is at the end of brushing wouldn’t be gross if you used the right amount of toothpaste to avoid excess foaming.
Having graduated from the University of Michigan with a DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery), Dr. Suhail boasts over 15 years of experience and millions of followers on social media. He is also the founder of Dentologie – Dental Care Services in multiple US locations.
