Deficiency of ‘healthy fats’ makes you forgetful ‘all the time’, says doctor
Lack of essential nutrients can manifest in many forms, including conditions such as forgetfulness and blurry vision, among other things.
Deficiency of any important nutrient in the body can cause mental and physical issues that are often overlooked. Did you know that lack of iron may be the reason for your dark circles?

3 signs of omega-3 Fatty Acids deficiency
Naturopathic doctor Janine Bowring outlines three signs that indicate low levels of omega-3 fatty acids – a “healthy fat” vital for several bodily functions.
We recommend consulting a doctor if you experience any of the following symptoms as they can also stem from other underlying health problems.
Blurry vision
Poor or blurry vision could be one of the conditions caused by low levels of healthy fats.
DHA or Docosahexaenoic acid found in omega-3 fatty acids is present in high-concentration in your eyes. The doctor says it connects the circadian rhythms (biological cycle) from natural light with your brain, which can impact your vision.
Furthermore, studies have also shown that essential fat is necessary to maintain the structural and functional properties of the retina.
Makes you forgetful
Omega-3 fatty acids are crucial for mental health. Doctors call it “super brain food” because it increases the power of the organ.
However, a lack of healthy fats can have the opposite effect and make you forgetful “all the time,” according to Dr. Janine.
Although a balanced diet with the right amount of macronutrients and micronutrients is important for the overall development of the brain, Omega-3 fatty acids are believed to be especially beneficial to the organ.
Causes dry and wrinkled skin
The onset of fall may not be the only reason for your dry skin, as omega-3 deficiency affects the texture of your skin as well.
The doctor explains: “DHA and EPA in omega-3 fatty acids help with proper skin barrier function.” She recommends eating food rich in essential fats.
Include more wild fatty fish, shellfish, and oysters in your diet if possible. Or else, consider taking a high-DHA fish oil supplement after consulting your doctor.
