Crocodile attack survivor fought off 10ft beast by biting croc on the eye
An Australian farmer couldn’t thank his luck enough having survived a crocodile attack where roles were reversed and he had to bite the croc to set himself free.
It took Colin Deveraux a while to be able to get back on his feet again, but it was his presence of mind at the time of the attack that saved his life.

Crocodile drags Australian man into the lake
The incident occurred in November 2023, when Colin was in the Northern Territory to install some fencing near the Finiss River.
A fish swimming in the receded water of the lake caught the man’s attention when he stopped to watch it.
As he stepped away, a 10-foot-crocodile whose presence Colin was unaware of, latched on to his right foot and the man says it was a “big grab.” Colin recollected: “He shook me like a rag doll and took off back into the water, pulling me in.”
The veteran used all his force to kick the croc’s ribs to free his foot from its grip, but his efforts were rendered useless. Then, he realized his teeth had accidentally caught the reptile’s eyelid when he was in an “awkward position.”
“It was pretty thick, like holding onto leather, but I jerked back on his eyelid and he let go,” he said.
The croc chased him on the ground
Colin managed to free himself by biting the croc’s eyelid and got out of the water, but the beast was determined to get him. He said it chased him for about four meters before stopping.
The survivor had to stop the bleeding from the open wounds he sustained in the attack, so he used a towel and a rope to strap up his leg and called his brother to have him driven to a hospital, 80 miles away from the lake where he fought a croc.
The open wounds on his leg were infected by harmful bacteria in the lake and the animal’s teeth, which the doctors had to flush multiple times during Colin’s hospitalization.
The doctors reportedly used a skin graft to treat his wounds and he was able to feel his toes a month later and was expected to walk out of the hospital soon.
Looking back at the near-death incident, Colin said; If the crocodile had bitten me somewhere else, it would have been different.
Although he spent his entire life installing fences around lakes, Colin said the horrifying incident opened his eyes. Meanwhile, the beast that attacked him was since “removed”, with no further details revealed.
