‘Craziest things’ veterinarians have found inside dogs – Screwdrivers to razor blades
Dogs are notorious for swallowing anything and everything they find. Who would know their antics better than veterinarians responsible for undoing the “craziest things” they got into?
That’s why experts advise you to train the pup as soon you bring it home. Not only does it stop your furry baby from destroying things in and around the house, but it can also save them from serious and life-threatening accidents.

Most unexpected things dogs have swallowed
Luckily, all the dogs behind swallowing the most unbelievable were rescued safely. When veterinarian Adam Christman went around asking his colleagues the “craziest things dogs have got into”, the responses were full of bizarre incidents.
We could ask you to take a wild guess, but the misadventures of the naughty puppers are beyond your imagination. Here’s a list of things that were found inside of different dogs.
- Screwdriver – One of the vets said she removed an 8-inch Philips head screwdriver from inside a one-year-old bulldog. The household item was stuck in such a position that it could be pushed out of the dog’s stomach without requiring surgery.
- Bocce ball and razor blades – A colleague of Dr. Adam’s once removed a large bocce ball out of a Golden Retriever and treated a Rottweiler surgically after it swallowed a box of razor blades.
- Fishing lures – Another vet removed a tackle box with fishing lures from inside a dog who still “did okay.”
- Ceramic peeps – One Mastiff swallowed two ceramic peeps – salt and pepper shakers, which were intact inside the stomach.
- Vinyl record and a thong – The craziest of all is one instance when a dog swallowed pieces of a vinyl record. And the same vet treated another dog for swallowing an underwear thong.
How to stop your pup from gnawing on things
It’s a dog’s instinct to chew on things, but you can stop the habit by teaching your pup the “no” command, which is meant to show them that not all things are chewable.
Furthermore, dogs tend to bite on things excessively due to boredom or lack of enough physical activity. It’s your responsibility as a pet parent to ensure your dog gets enough walks and regular exercise.
If your puppy is habituated to chewing on its bed, replace it with an elevated bed with no stuffing. However, if you suspect your pooch of swallowing anything potentially dangerous, getting it checked with a vet immediately avoids further complications.
