Couple relaxing at Blue Lagoon forced to evacuate as volcano erupts nearby

Following a volcanic eruption on the Reykjanes Peninsula last week, tourists at the popular Blue Lagoon were forced to flee with their bodies still wet and their bills unpaid.

Thanks to ferocious predators and terrifying zombie mushrooms, we are constantly reminded of Mother Nature’s power. Nonliving demonstrations of her power are just as scary, like the rogue ocean holes that inspired myths and legends across the ages.

Tourists somehow kept their cool during the Icelandic eruption

Iceland is known for a few things in this world, with eruptions being one of them thanks to the 170 volcanoes. They are constantly going off, which tourists Andrew and Alle Kenney (@aa.kenney) experienced on their August trip to Iceland.

In the clip, which has since garnered 8.1 million views and 800k likes, Alle and Andrew could be seen evacuating Iceland’s Blue Lagoon spa with all their belongings bundled in their arms.

“Bit of a terrifying experience, we are being evacuated from Blue Lagoon in Iceland because there has been volcanic activity detected,” she told the camera. “It’s pretty terrifying for that alarm to go off when you’re at the back of the pool.”

Soaking wet, the tourists were evacuated from Blue Lagoon without paying their bills. The employees reportedly told them to forget it and get going.

We are SAFE! Thankfully the employees at the Blue Lagoon were so professional and efficient at getting everyone out of there in a timely manner! Very scary and definitely not on our Bingo card. #fyp #aak #uwc #travel #iceland #volcano #bluelagoon #emergency #ultimateworldcruise #royalcaribbean @Blue Lagoon Iceland

“Thankfully the employees at the Blue Lagoon were so professional and efficient at getting everyone out of there in a timely manner! Very scary and definitely not on our Bingo card,” she penned in the caption.

While journeying back to their accommodation, the travel influencer couple recorded scenes of orange and red surrounding them. The air was visibly smoking and you could even see lava erupting into the air.

We took the precautionary measure of evacuating and temporarily closing all our operational units,” said the spa in a statement posted to its website.”Blue Lagoon will be closed tomorrow, Friday23August,at which time the situation will be reassessed.”

Turns out it’s more common than you think

In some parts of the world, a volcanic eruption might sound like something from an action film. Unfortunately, they are all too common in areas like Iceland, and many TikTok users have been affected it seems.

One person wrote in the comments: “We werent even allowed to go to the Blue Lagoon in March for this reason.”

“Glad you are safe! But did they happen to mention if the lagoon will stay closed and for how long? Headed there in a week!” another said.

A third wrote: “Dont know if this helps but I remember a few years ago a volcano erupted and I texted my Icelandic friend if she was okay, she still went to school and stuff.”
