Company draws criticism after shipping ice from Greenland to Dubai for cocktails
A company based out of Greenland has drawn criticism after shipping ice from the cold country all the water to Dubai for cocktails.
In the lives of the rich and stupid, where everything is quite literally at your fingertips, the idea of foreign ice might not sound so ridiculous. But for us mere mortals, we know better. Right now, there are people in Dubai living the life of luxury and sipping on a bourbon with ice from 4,735 miles away.
Apparently, they don’t have ice in Dubai
Arctic Ice, a startup based out of Greenland, is shipping off the purest ice in the world to upscale bars in Dubai.
An explanation on its website reads: “Our pure iceberg ice has little to no taste, ensuring it doesn’t alter the flavor of beverages as it melts, unlike ice made from tap or mineral water.
“Additionally, its structure makes it last longer in drinks, providing a premium experience in bars and restaurants.”
Your first thought might be of the rapidly disintegrating glaciers in the region that people are constantly barking about online.
After all, the world is currently experiencing a climate catastrophe like never before. However, the company argues that the impact is insignificant because they harvest from icebergs “already naturally detached from the glacier and floating in the Nuuk fjord.
Once harvested, the ice is then chilled and transported across the globe to be served up to the rich. So while they might not be cutting the ice away, the fuel from the ship is definitely adding to the rapidly deteriorating climate.
Social media users are not having it
While business is clearly booming, social media users have not been fooled by the luxury feel of their Instagram, which is designed to look like other glitzy high-class brands.
On a recent post, one person scathed: What’s wrong with you? Will drink your cash when Earth will make fun of us all? Next Step selling bottles of “fresh air”.
Absolute disgrace to loot nature for some a******s who no longer know how to spend their millions in their artificial paradise, another wrote, as someone else joked, Im exporting desert sand from Dubai to Greenland. 100.000 years old or more if anyone interested! Works great with sand clocks and other stuff!
