Clever hack uses unusual liquid to remove tea and coffee stains from carpet
There’s nothing worse than spilling tea or coffee on your carpet. It leaves an ugly brown patch that’s a nightmare to get out, but this simple hack could do the trick.
Forget the carpet cleaner, baking soda, bleach or vinegar – all you need is one unusual liquid, which you might just have in the fridge right now.

Hack to remove tea and coffee stains
The clever hack to remove those tea and coffee stains is beer. Yes, a drop of beer on a pesky brown mark really could be all you need.
“While spilling beer on your carpet can cause havoc, the beverage also happens to have surprising stain-removal properties itself,” experts from rug store The Rugs said. “Do you have coffee and tea stains ruining the look of your carpet? Well, a bottle of beer might be all you need to freshen up the surface.”
All you have to do is pour a small drop of beer onto the stain and rub it lightly into the carpet with a cloth to see “almost immediate results”. You may need to scrub a little harder with your cloth for larger, more challenging stains.
Once the stains are gone, you need to make sure you rinse the carpet with water and soap, otherwise, the beer will stain the carpet yellow again – and it will be pretty smelly. Then, pat it dry and the area will be as good as new.
The carbonation and acidity in the alcoholic drink help to break down the tea or coffee and lift the stain in the same way as vinegar does.

Pour salt on fresh stains
If someone’s just spilt something on your carpet, pour a generous amount of salt on the area and leave it for an hour. The salt will absorb most of the liquid, removing most of the stain, and you can simply vacuuum it up once it’s dry.
WD-40 is a quick fix for spills
WD-40 is usually used as a lubricant and is associated with rust and corrosion, but it’s also great at removing tough carpet stains from things like makeup, wine and candle wax. Just apply it to the stained area and leave for 20-30 seconds before rinsing.
Iron out stains with cleaning solution
Another great hack involves making a homemade cleaning solution with two cups of warm water and five drops of washing-up liquid. Then, soak a clean cloth into the solution and wring it out. Place the towel over the stained area and iron the surface until you see the stain soaking into the cloth.
Use ice cubes to remove chewing gum
If there’s chewing gum stuck to your carpet, place an ice cube over the area for a few minutes to freeze it. Once the gum is hardened, you should be able to remove it by pulling gently or using a dull knife to scrape it away.
