Chick-fil-A’s futuristic delivery robots bring chicken straight to your doorstep

Chick-fil-A’s rather futuristic delivery robot enables your chicken to be rolled straight to your doorstep. Now, that’s what we call fast food.

The delivery robots from Chick-fil-A are literally embracing the term meals on wheels and have been known to catch customers off guard, who are expecting a delivery driver and instead, are being greeted by a robot. The future of technology, eh?

Delivery robot brings Chick-fil-A chicken to your doorstep

American fast-food restaurant chain Chick-fil-A specializes in chicken sandwiches and is known for fantastic deals such as giving away new free food, but the chain is also recognized for its delivery robots.

A press release shared in May 2022 announced that Chick-fil-A is testing autonomous delivery robots as the next frontier to serving guests wherever they are.

Locations vary, and the delivery service still shocks customers to this day.

A TikTok user named @delaneycharles filmed their reaction to the robot delivering their Chick-fil-A food, with the caption writing: “I can’t say I was expecting this when I ordered lunch today.”

At their full potential, the robots can enhance restaurant operations, cut delivery costs, and “provide great-tasting food with the consistency guests expect.”

Chick-fil-A revealed that the vehicles are equipped with artificial intelligence systems and advanced depth-perception cameras, which allow them to navigate traffic patterns, pedestrians and even maneuver through car and bike lanes, busy malls, and sidewalks.

New take on fast food

The new venture began in partnership with Refraction AI, a leader in autonomous delivery that is based in Austin, Texas. It has helped to introducethe delivery serviceto his digitally-savvy downtown customers, according to the Operator ofChick-fil-A 6th and Congress in Austin, Texas, named Luke Steigmeyer.

To keep food at the ideal temperature, the robots are insulated and also have the ability to navigate themselves to the designated drop-off spot, keeping guests updated on their journey and estimated arrival time while they are on the move. The speedy robots reportedly travel up to 15 miles per hour.

As reported in 2022, during the test period, safety chasers follow these vehicles to ensure a smooth journey, answer any questions guests may have, and learn how to improve the experience.

Upon arrival, guests are alerted with a text message as well as simple instructions for retrieving their meal.

Delivery options and availability vary by location, so you can check out delivery options not see if Chick-fil-A can be delivered near you.
