Apple cider vinegar is linked to a range of health benefits

In a new experimental study, researchers looked at the connection between weight loss and apple cider vinegar. They hoped to understand whether apple cider vinegar could increase weight loss, reduce blood sugar, and reduce cholesterol. As it turns out, it can do all three under specific circumstances.

The researchers split 30 people in Lebanon into four groups. Each group drank either 5, 10, or 15ml of apple cider vinegar a day, with a fourth set given a placebo as a control group. The participants were instructed to dilute their vinegar in 250ml of water before eating anything in the morning.

What did they find?

The trial was conducted over a period of three months and what the scientists found was actually quite hopeful. Interestingly, they found a significant reduction in body weight and body mass index as participants reported dropping 6 to 8kg in weight and around 3 points in BMI.

The authors of the study also reported that participants experienced decreased levels of blood glucose, triglycerides, and cholesterol.

The findings of this study indicate that ACV consumption for 12 weeks led to significant reduction in anthropometric variables and improvements in blood glucose, triglyceride and cholesterol levels in overweight/obese adolescents/adults, they penned in the conclusion.

These results suggest that ACV might have potential benefits in improving metabolic parameters related to obesity and metabolic disorders in obese individuals.
