Catastrophic injury lawyer urges people to throw away non-stick frying pans

A catastrophic injury and death lawyer has warned people against using non-stick pans while also offering a safer alternative.

As you might know, products go through countless safety tests and quality checks before they are released to the public. Unfortunately, such checks are not always successful, which is precisely why the FDA has already been forced to recall dozens of beverages in 2024.

Why you should axe your non-stick frying pans

The world is full of safety concerns, which coincidentally is why Americans own guns despite the clear danger surrounding them. You’re not going to solve gun violence by simply throwing a frying pan away, but you could minimize risk in your kitchen, a catastrophic injury lawyer has said.

Tommy (@tommythelawyer) is a lawyer with over 265k followers on TikTok where he usually posts content about his job. In a recent clip, which garnered nearly 50k likes, Tommy turned his attention to the kitchen cupboards.

“The one product that I would tell anybody not to use, that I think is extremely common, and it might sound stupid, is non-stick frying pans,” he said. “Basically, every, or almost every non-stick frying pan is made up of Teflon.”

Though not all non-stick pans are created equal, Tommy argued that it’s the mystery surrounding manufacturing processes that is the clear issue. He said that “not all of the companies” are as transparent as they should be about disclosing the chemicals in their products.

The presence of Teflon, lead, PFAS, and other potentially hazardous chemicals is not unheard of in cookware and is especially an issue in cheaper brands.

Instead, Tommy recommended investing in a stainless steel frying pan. In the comments, others also put forward cast iron, though this option is particularly expensive and requires some upkeep.

People seem to prefer stainless steel

After the injury lawyer’s stark warning about non-stick frying pans, many people took to the comments to further recommend stainless steel. Just have a little patience, because other TikTok users said stainless steel is a different horse to wrangle.

“I learned about stainless steel pans on TikTok and got rid of all my Teflon. The food tastes better! If you learn how to use SS pans, they are nonstick,” one person wrote.

“My stepmom bought me a set of stainless when I got my first apartment. Ive had them over 18 years,” another fan revealed.

A third wrote: “Cant even tell you how many non-stick pans Ive bought or been given over the years and the film comes off every. single. time. Theres no way not to consume it.”
