Cake decorator’s honest mistake ruins couple’s big moment before gender reveal

Gender reveal is a big deal and one of the most memorable moments of parenthood. However, a Northern Carolina couple wasn’t lucky enough to experience the special moment owing to a cake decorator’s honest mistake.

Like many couples, TikTok user Ariel Johnson and her boyfriend weren’t aware of their baby’s gender and hoped to learn about it through a special cake they had ordered for the gender reveal. But one voicemail “ruined” everything they had planned.

Bakery ‘ruins’ couple’s gender reveal

Ariel took to TikTok to post a video with the voicemail sent by the cake decorator playing in the background. She didn’t know if she was having a girl or a boy until then.

Ariel reportedly received a sealed envelope from her doctor including the gender of her baby, which was directly taken to the bakery where she ordered a cake for the gender reveal.

She wanted to have a “cute little surprise with her boyfriend”, so she asked the bakery to keep the filling of the cake a secret – raspberries for a girl and blackberries for a boy.

She got home and eagerly waited for the cake to be delivered when the cake decorator sent her a voicemail saying they were out of blackberry filling for the lemon curd cake.

At that moment Ariel realized she was having a boy, although she was assured by the bakery that it would be “kept a secret” until the couple cut open the cake to learn the gender of the baby.

imagine paying $$, walking into the bakery with a sealed envelope from a doctor, currating a whole special, intimate moment with you & your partner… just to have some random, careless woman ruin it with a single voicemail… thaaaanks… if my eyes are red it’s cause I’ve been crying all morning ๐Ÿ–ค๐Ÿ–ค #genderrevealfail #genderreveal #emotions #pregnant #altmom

They got a full refund

Although the bakery didn’t intend to ruin the couple’s big surprise, Ariel was disappointed, nevertheless. She told TODAY.com that it was “more than a giant bummer.”

She reportedly told the outlet that she and her boyfriend called the bakery demanding a full refund, which they received.

Addressing some of the negative comments her video was met with, she said: “It didnt matter what the sex of my future child would be, I am happy either way.”

She ultimately treated the blunder as a “little hiccup” as she and her boyfriend cherished the news about having a boy.

I couldnt wait and neither could he, so I told him. We are very excited to be having a child anyway!” said the mom-to-be.
