British man reviews Americas most expensive grocery store

In a bid to see what all the internet fuss is about, British influencer Max Balegde flew across the globe to try out America’s most expensive grocery store, Erewhon.

Erewhon Market is an upscale American grocery store with 10 locations across Los Angeles County, California. While it was first envisioned back in 1966, the combination of celebrity culture and the internet has turned Erewhon into a must-see destination, if only for its extortionate prices.

His review of Erewhon was the ‘most British’

Max Balegde (@max_balegde) is an internet personality with 3.6 million followers on TikTok, a career that has seen him travel the globe and meet celebrities like The Rock and Millie Bobby Brown.

While the world is aware of dramatic food price increases, Max was in for a surprise when he visited Erewhon to “see what all the fuss was about” during a recent trip to the US.

“Right off the bat there are so many bloody people here,” he said, shocked. “It’s a Wednesday afternoon, do you not all have jobs?”

The first thing to catch Max’s eye was the packaging of the fruit, which was all cut perfectly into neatly stacked plastic packaging.

The wide array of organic fruits was arranged pleasingly, which is quite different from the usual chaos of a grocery store.

“It’s giving Harvest festival. It’s mad,” he added, staring at the perfectly arranged vegetables that had near-constant misting. “Sainsbury’s, step up your game love.”

Making his way through the store, Max was greeted by “about 75 varieties” of gluten-free bread, and beautifully arranged jars of soup that made him want to “gobble” them up.

Upon leaving the store, Max stopped by the smoothie counter to try Hailey Bieber’s $18 smoothie. Unfortunately, the so-called healthy smoothie contains more sugar than a Starbucks frappuccino and he had to wait 30 minutes for it.

“Yeah, it’s alright,” he concluded, clearly unimpressed by the luxury version of blended fruit and sugar.

Americans appreciated the honesty

Despite the British man coming for what many deem as a staple part of Los Angeles culture, many Americans thanked him for the “most British” approach to his review.

“The few second pause before ‘yeah its alright’ contemplating the fact youd spent 30 minutes in a queue for a bang average smoothie,” one person said.

“Ive never seen an Erewhon/smoothie review that made me want to try. Smoothie king will do just fine,” another said, as a third concluded, “As a Brit. I have lived in LA for five years and I am still amazed places are busy all the time. I swear no one works.”
