Blind mom explains how she worked out result from gender reveal party in beautiful TikTok
A blind mom has shared the smart hack she used to throw a gender reveal party, despite not being able to see it.
Mom Katy has over 300,000 followers on TikTok, where she regularly shares content showing what its like to live as a blind mom.�
Katy already has a daughter and is now expecting her second child. When throwing her gender reveal party in October, Katy wanted to ensure she could celebrate the reveal at the same time as her family.�
Baby gender reveal as a blind mom
Katy has seven retinoblastoma, a form of cancer, which meant she had life-saving surgery as a child to remove her eyes. The TikToker explained in a video that a tumor behind her eye was beginning to move into her brain, meaning it was a choice between her eyesight or her life.
For the gender reveal of her second child, Katy created a giant tic-tac-toe with pink and green circles. As she is unable to visually see the colors, Katy had to come up with an innovative way to figure it out without delay.
For me as a blind person, it was very important that my reaction was either exactly the same time as my family or a few seconds before, she explained in her video uploaded on October 10.
Katy uses glittery washi tape on the pink circles and solid tape on the blue ones. She then used her hands while she flipped each one to feel for the tape. As were flipping I know that this is pink, this is blue, she explained.
A second video showed the gender reveal in action, as Katy and her husband found out that they are expecting a boy.�

Katys shares life as a blind mom online
The TikToker often shares videos speaking honestly about the changes she has to make as a blind mom.�
It is so important to me that despite my disability, I am a part of my daughters activities and experiences in life. Even simple ones like playing at a park, Katy said in a video.
For Katy, the main thing is being able to always hear her child instead of seeing her. When shes watching TV or listening to music, especially while looking after her daughter alone, she has to always ensure to have it on a low level.
I need to be able to hear my child. Just like you have your eyes on your child, I have my ears on my child, she explained.
