Biggest misconception about getting a job at Costco debunked by an employee
Landing a job at Costco is most people’s dream. The company holds a reputation for its benefits and work culture, encouraging employees to stick with them for years.
However, getting hired by Costco isn’t easy, and desperate job seekers think a recommendation from a current employee could get them the job demand. If only it were so easy!

Costco employee says recommendation doesn’t work
Costco employee Maggie Perkins lists things to do to be considered for a job at Costco from her own experience. She is currently in charge of warehouse training – a role she took up after a year at the company.
However, if you’re looking for a new job at the retailer, Maggie doesn’t recommend recommendations because that’s “not how it works,” she says in a TikTok video.
She rather suggests applying through the website when there’s an opening. Then, visit the warehouse that’s hiring and ask to speak to the manager or the head of the department about the role you’re interested in.
Katie’s fellow employees have worked with Costco for a decade or more as the company has one of the “highest retention rates in the country” for employees.
Important advice on where to apply
Other than applying on the website, Katie’s advice is to look for new warehouses as they offer more job openings, say 200 – 300, compared to an establishment outlet with 2 or 3 hirings.
Katie quit her teaching job to work at Costco when she spotted a new warehouse opening with job vacancies.
As for what the company expects from its employees – hardworking, flexible with timings, problem solvers, and people who can work well with others and deal with different personalities.
She says it has less employee turnover because “people keep their Costco jobs because it’s a very good job.” And, it’s common to be hired as a part-time employee before transitioning into a full-time role.
