Bartender predicts most popular cocktail of 2024 – and its really simple

A bartender has designed Mexicos Batanga as the official cocktail of 2024 as some TikTok users admitted to seeing the drink recommendation up to eight times a day.�

Its an unwritten fact that each year a single drink reigns supreme as the worlds obsession. Thanks to the House of the Dragon cast, 2022 was the year of the negroni sbagliato with prosecco in it. Similarly, back in 2016, a classic Old Fashioned proved why it’s the best of the best.�

Introducing 2024s cocktail, the Batanga 

Bartending wizz Jordan Hughes (@highproofteacher) addressed this 95k TikTok followers last week with what he thought would be this years most popular boozy concoction. The drink, hailing from Mexico, is called the Batanga.�

The self-declared boozy Hank Green placed a pinch of salt into a salt-rimmed glass and then poured in a squeeze of lime, two ounces of blanco tequila, ice, and Coca-Cola.�

As reported by Bar School, the Batanga was created by Don Javier Delgado at his restaurant, La Capilla, in 1961. The drink was named Batanga, which is Spanish slang for thick in the middle, after one of his customers. Quite the compliment.�

There are a number of spin-off versions of the cocktail, including Cherry Batanga, Highball, 7 and 7, Captain and Coke, A�ejo Highball, and Scotch and Soda. 

TikTok thinks there is a plot

While most of Jordans followers admitted to wanting to try the drink, people felt as though a Tequila company was paying for advertisement. You see, the Batanga seems to be popping up across everyones For You Pages.�
