Apple expert shares 8 little-known tips that will ‘save’ your iPhone’s battery
If your iPhone is starting to run out of battery really fast, there are some things you can do to make it last longer.
The Apple device’s battery life gets significantly worse after a few years of use, but don’t write your phone off just yet.

8 tips to ‘save’ your iPhone battery
Former Apple employee Tyler Morgan took to TikTok to share eight tips little-known tips that will help your iPhone stay alive all day.
You already know the basics like turning down your brightness and enabling Low Power Mode, but these are the phone battery-saving tricks you’ve never heard of before.
1. Turn on Optimized Battery Charging
First up, turn on Optimized Battery Charging which enables your iPhone to delay charging past 80% when it’s plugged in for long periods to reduce the wear on your battery and improve its lifespan. To do this, go to Battery > Charging > Optimized Battery Charging.
2. Don’t let your phone drop below 20%
Next up, never let your iPhone drop below 20%. Lithium-ion batteries, which iPhones use, degrade the slowest when they are kept between a 20% and 80% state of charge. So, charge your device regularly and never wait for it to die.
3. Don’t close all your apps
There is a common myth that you should close all your apps when you’re not using them by swiping up on the home screen. However, it actually takes more effort for your phone to reopen an app than to just leave it open. So, never close your apps to preserve battery life.
4. Lower your screen shut off time
Lowering your screen shut-off time to 30 seconds or 1 minute will significantly improve how long it lasts. This means your phone will lock and go dark after 30 seconds rather than 2, 3, 4 or 5 minutes. To do this, go to Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock.
5. Turn off ‘Always On’ display
Similar to above, you should also turn off Always On Display if you have it enabled. This dims the lock screen while keeping information like the time, widgets and notifications visible at all times, so your screen never goes fully dark. You can do this in the Display & Brightness section too.
6. Switch off Background App Refresh
Another way to save your battery is switching off Background App Refresh, which allows your apps to constantly update and refresh in the background even when you don’t have them open. Go to General > Background App Refresh > Off to do this.
7. Turn off Bluetooth and WiFi
Whenever you are not using your Bluetooth or Wifi, turning them off will preserve battery life too. Don’t do this by pushing the symbol in the Control Center either, actually navigate into the Settings and turn them fully off that was instead.
8. Turn off cellular data
Finally, if you’re using WiFi, turn off your cellular data in the Settings too. Loads of iPhone users leave their data on all the time even when they aren’t using it, which is using up unnecessary battery for no reason at all.
There is no way to increase your device’s battery health once it dies, so it’s crucial to do everything you can to preserve it as soon as you get a new iPhone.
