Anyone who hates washing their bedsheets should take lifestyle guru’s hygiene advice

There’s nothing like sleeping on fresh bedspreads, but it isn’t always easy to keep them clean. Exposing yourself to dust and dirt on the sheets often causes allergies and skin problems affecting your overall well-being.

Although laundry experts recommend washing your bed sheets at least once a week, the same rule doesn’t apply to all – pet parents, take note.

Nightly routine keeps bed sheets clean

Sleeping on fresh bedsheets not only provides comfort, but it’s crucial for your overall well-being. If you don’t like washing your bedspreads too often, perhaps you should consider a common hygiene routine.

If you are someone who prefers showering in the morning, you’re likely to get into bed carrying the dust and dirt you would have attracted during the day.

Bedding and lifestyle expert, Daniel Ufland, who is also the founder of Flitch, says: “The cleaner you are when getting into bed, the cleaner your bed will stay.”

“After a long day of being out in the world, youre bringing everything with you into bed, from dirt to pollen, and, over days and weeks, that builds up in your sheets,” he continues.

Therefore, you can keep your bedsheets tidy longer by showering at the end of the day before hitting the sack.

How often you should wash them

Daniel shared a few more general recommendations for sheet washing with The Focus, depending on lifestyle choices and health conditions.

While it’s generally recommended to wash the bedsheets once every one to two weeks to eliminate the buildup of “skin oils, sweat, and dead skin cells that naturally occur while you sleep,” pet parents don’t have the luxury.

If you share your bed with your pet, consider washing your bedsheets every 3-4 days to keep “contaminants at bay. The expert adds: “This is especially necessary if someone in the household has allergies to pet dander.

For those who suffer from skin conditions, cleaning the bed covers twice a week is highly recommended to reduce the risk of infections and other skin-related problems. “Clean sheets are essential for individuals with skin conditions, as bacteria and oils trapped in fabric can worsen symptoms,” Daniel notes.

People suffering from respiratory issues or Asthma should wash them weekly as any dust, pollen or dirt tends to exacerbate symptoms, leading to restless sleep and respiratory issues.

The lifestyle guru says: “Washing your sheets weekly and not leaving windows open in your bedroom for too long can help minimize exposure to dust mites and pollen, leading to a cleaner and healthier space for allergy sufferers.”
