American woman ‘can’t believe’ what whipped cream is called in the UK

Americans and Brits have different words for all kinds of things. Sidewalk vs pavement, pants vs trousers and chips vs crisps. Another one is whipped cream!

A woman from the US has gone viral on TikTok after sharing her surprise when she found out what the UK calls the sweet topping – and she couldn’t stop laughing.

American ‘can’t believe’ what Brits call whipped cream

“I have heard that whipped cream has a different name here in the UK than it has in America. We’re gonna see for ourselves to find out if that’s actually true,” Amber Kacherian said while walking around a British grocery store.

The American who is currently visiting the UK walked over to the whipped cream and held it up to the camera to show the name written on the can: “squirty cream”. It’s named that as you squirt the cream through the nozzle directly onto the food.

“Oh look there it is. The legends are true,” she said while in floods of laughter. “I can’t believe they actually call it that. We have to buy this just so we have it as a souvenir. Do you think I can take that on the plane?”

Amber insinuated that the name sounds kind of rude and winked as she said the words “squirty cream” in a posh British accent. She then went on to try the delicacy and said it was sweet with a “weird chemical aftertaste” that she didn’t like.

Whipped cream and squirty cream are different

British people are making things even more confusing in the comments by revealing that whipped cream and squirty cream are actually different.

In the UK, whipped cream is made by whisking fresh cream at home in a bowl until it becomes light, fluffy, and capable of holding its shape. However, squirty cream is the kind you buy in an aerosol can. It’s thinner, almost foam-like in texture and usually has sugar added for sweetness.

“Whipped cream is cream that has been whipped. Squirty cream is cream in a can. Not the same thing,” one person said.

Another wrote: “Thats not whipped cream though! Its literally squirty cream. Whipped is in a bowl whipped with a whisk.”

Americans tend to just call both kinds whipped cream. Sometimes, they may say canned whipped cream to make things clearer. Other people across the UK and Scotland call it skooshycream, spray cream and aerosol cream.

Who knew whipped cream could cause such a stir!
