American can’t believe British McDonald’s doesn’t have UK’s second favorite condiment
An American woman was shocked after she was refused one of the world’s most popular sauces at a British McDonald’s.
Lisa Dollan, who goes by the name Yorkshire Peach online, has lived in England for a whole decade after moving from Georgia, and only just discovered this week that the fast food chain doesn’t have mayonnaise.

“I was refused mayonnaise at McDonald’s,” she said on TikTok. “What’s going on? Is there no mayonnaise at UK McDonald’s? I don’t know what’s happening?”
She went to the drive-thru and ordered a breakfast wrap, which typically comes with ketchup or brown sauce. However, that’s “very strange” to her as an American and she’d usually always have the menu item with mayo.
The server asked if she would like any sauce, so she asked for the white condiment, unaware there would be any problems. He surprisingly said, “We can’t put mayonnaise on it,” so she asked if she could have a pot or sachet of mayonnaise on the side instead.
“Not really,” he replied before saying that ketchup or brown sauce were the only two available options. Huh?
McDonald’s doesn’t have mayonnaise in the UK
“Where is the mayonnaise?” Dollan repeated again in complete shock, and Brits clarified in the comments that McDonald’s doesn’t have mayonnaise pots in the UK.
They have big tubs of mayo in the kitchen for various menu items, mainly chicken sandwiches like the Mayo Chicken and McCrispy. However, British McDonald’s doesn’t have mayonnaise in takeaway pots or sachets. Yes, really!
Mayonnaise was voted the second favorite condiment by British people in 2021, only just losing the top spot to ketchup. So, why don’t they offer it? Well, the fast food chain claims it’s due to a lack of demand.
“What we offer in our restaurants is based on customer demand. We dont currently have any plans for mayonnaise to be made available,” a spokesperson for McDonald’s told Cosmopolitan.
So, why couldn’t they have put some of the kitchen mayonnaise on the breakfast wrap? Well, it could be due to strict cross-contamination rules.
A McDonald’s employee also claimed that during breakfast, they only have ketchup and brown sauce available as they have to clean the sauce containers overnight. The main menu begins at 11am, which is when all the other sauces are stocked up.
So, if you’re ever getting McDonald’s in England, don’t ask for mayonnaise! The free takeaway sauce options are ketchup, BBQ, Sweet Curry and Sweet & Sour. You can also pay for Sweet Chilli and Sweet & Smoky BBQ.
It comes just weeks after an American McDonald’s server couldn’t understand a British accent at the drive-thru.
