America has the second worst sleep habits in the world, new poll shows

A new poll has ranked countries worldwide in terms of their worst sleep habits, with America coming in second behind Australia.

Only 15% of Americans get the recommended amount of sleep, which science tells us can affect everything from weight to mental competency. Of course, there are countless aids you can take like the sleepy girl mocktail or light colors that help you relax.

America has some of the worst sleep habits in the world

Considering we recently learned that using your phone before bed has little effect on sleep quality, something we had always believed was true, it’s time we get back down to the sleep basics. To do that, we must first understand how prevalent sleep issues are in our country.

That’s where Onebed comes in as they recently analyzed a range of data to better understand which countries have the most prevalent sleep issues.

Factors considered in the poll included average hours of sleep per night, air quality index, noise pollution levels, stress levels, and the frequency of Google searches for topics like sleep deprivation.

Australia ranked first for the worst sleeping habits, coming in with an average sleep duration of just 6.24 hours a night. It seems sleep issues are particularly prevalent down under with “sleep deprivation” receiving 66,450 searches and “insomnia remedies” 47,770 searches.

Australia was followed quickly by the United States, which had the lowest average nightly sleep of just 5.7 hours. But one factor could be the considerably higher levels of air and light pollution, which in turn contributes to the highest Google searches for sleep-related issues.

The UK came in fourth

Sleep is something we all need, but its becoming increasingly clear just how challenging it is for people across the globe to get a decent night’s rest. Its no surprise to see Australia leading the charge, with so many of us turning to the internet for help with sleep issues,” Dylan Tollemache, the Co-Founder & CEO at Onebed, commented.

In third place was the Philippines, averaging 6.13 hours per night, followed by the United Kingdom with 6.80 hours a night.
