Aldi’s Doggy Ice Cream is back, and my pooch gave it the ultimate taste test
There’s nothing better than a cold ice cream on a hot sunny day, and now your furry friend can join in the fun too.
Aldi’s sell-out Doggy Ice Cream returned to stores across the UK this week, so I grabbed a box and let my dog give it the ultimate taste test.

Aldi’s Doggy Ice Cream is back
The much-loved summer treat first launched in June 2022 and returned the following year by popular demand. Now, it’s back once again, returning to stores nationwide on Monday, May 13 for a limited time.
Retailing for 2.99, the box comes with four individual pots of ice cream in two flavors: Carrot & Apple and Pea & Vanilla. Both are 100% plant-based and made with real fruit and vegetables, providing a nutritious snack whilst also keeping pets cool.
It’s not really ice cream at all, more of a sorbet, because the product doesn’t contain any milk or lactose. The ingredients include Water, Sugar, Diced Carrot, Garden Peas, Glucose Syrup, Coconut Oil, Apple Puree, Oat Flour, Pea Protein and Rice Protein.
Made by a brand called Langham’s, the ice cream is one of the supermarket’s Specialbuys, which are their unique and exciting releases. You need to be quick, because Aldi says “once theyre gone, theyre gone!”.
“We were delighted to see another positive response to our dog-friendly ice cream last year. Now its back, we hope even more beloved pets can enjoy,” Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Buying at Aldi UK, said.

My dog gave it a taste test
As soon as I opened the box, my Cavapoo Remy ran straight over. He could hardly wait for me to move the pot under his nose before tucking in. I opened the Carrot & Apple first, which has bright orange pieces of carrot inside.
It was certainly a hit with Remy, who started licking straight away. When I tried to move it away, he sprung forward and dug his tongue back into the pot, so he was definitely enjoying it – and his tail was wagging the entire time!
He had to briefly pause because the ice cream was so cold on his tongue, but the licking resumed almost immediately. I opened the Pea & Vanilla after, which as expected had bright green pieces of pea inside, and it got the same reaction.
After a few minutes of intense licking, I took a look inside the small 110ml pot to find that the ice cream level had hardly gone down at all, so the treats will last a really long time and are great value for money at just under 75p per pot.
You can put the lid back on top and place the pot back in the freezer for another time if you like, although the box says it is safe for dogs to eat the entire tub (one per day) as a treat and part of a balanced diet.

Benefits of licking for dogs
On top of being a yummy cooling summer treat, the Doggy Ice Creams are also great mental stimulation for your furry friend. Licking gives their mind something to focus on, providing entertainment while keeping their brain healthy and active.
The act of licking also releases endorphins in a dog’s brain, PetMD explains, which makes the pooch feel calmer and more relaxed. This leads to a release of dopamine, another neurotransmitter which is associated with pleasure and motivation.
It’s a calming and soothing activity that creates a sense of safety and relieves anxiety. Remy has been zonked out on the floor beneath my feet for an hour after licking Aldi’s Doggy Ice Cream – so that says it all!
